We are looking for a Senior Technical Advisor, WASH Market Development to provide support for growth of WASH market systems for BAWISH (Market Based Area Wide Inclusive Hygiene and Sanitation) program implementation by leading a vibrant team, by adopting  developing  prototyping and scaling up of innovative business models that  improves the delivery of WASH products and services, by laying a strategy for  growth of private enterprises, by coordinating and leading WASH enterprise engagement and  working with various actors and partners to create fertile environment for sustainable WASH business.

Key Result Areas:

• Enterprise development WASH market growth (e.g. shipments, sales target, new penetration) 

• Market intelligence 

• Business model and franchise development (e.g., number of business models developed, number of enterprise services “franchised/branded” within the business models, number of products sold/services rendered through supported enterprises, profitability of supported enterprises) 

• Business development support (e.g., trainings delivered) 

• Stakeholder and partner engagement

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Device and implement performance-based management capacity building coaching and mentoring framework that will help in achieving results in Access to Hygiene and Sanitation. 

• Lead the adaptation design prototyping and scale up of WASH business and service delivery models for the MBAWISH Program 

• Coach and support regional team and stakeholders understand and implement business and service delivery models and ensure availability of product and service offering establish distribution channels, sales approaches and public and private finance partners. 

• Drive the engagement and incubation of private sector partners to deliver quality products and services through the development of systems, partnerships, tools, and training modules for provision of business development services. 

• Prototype and implement customer centered and sustainable WASH business development service through Public and Private BDS providers. 

• Design and cascade approaches and tools that helps to foster a strong and permanent relationship among demand, supply chain actors, and stakeholders to address access to Hygiene and sanitation services 

• Develop and implement and follow up approaches that ensure hygiene and sanitation access to all including consumer financing and subsidy mechanisms for the implementation of MBAWISH

• Explore WASH businesses capacity need and develop and implement an effective and efficient framework to address the need. 

• Support the product development demand creation marketing campaign for the WASH products and services. 

• Engage in development of Financing products for WASH businesses and ensure WASH businesses are benefiting and returning their loan timely.

• Explore and facilitate introduction of supplementary business for business operators, the viability and acceptability for new innovative models, and opportunities to increase efficiency of operators. 

• Establish networks among WASH market actors and engage with relevant government/local partners to effectively foster coordination and partnerships with private sector partners/stakeholders. 

• Support the cascading of the DQ sales and sales management approach and oversee the adoption of the approach for MBAWISH program

• Review and analyze monitoring level data to improve local management and decision-making and to adapt and optimize business models under implementation.  Device and implement performance measurement incentives and motivational schemes for staff and partners. 

• Provide regular, concise reporting on program activities, including document and sharing key learnings on the potential to scale identified business models with a private sector perspective. 

• Contribute to the development of metrics and establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework for tracking progress for the project, specifically tracking market development among private sector partners. 

Generic Duties of the Position:

• Develop and implement operational plans and objectives. 

• Monitor and ensure the proper utilization of budgets. 

• Identify human resources requirements of the Division and develop plan for meeting the requirements. 

• Lead the development, implementation and review of relevant Division procedures. 

• Review, approve and submit Division reports to relevant organs. 

• Support the development of subordinates through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback. 

• Represent the Organization in external relationships related with the Division. 

• Participate in group decision making processes by forming part of different groups/committees. 

Qualification and Experience: 

• Master’s degree in management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with six (6) years of demonstrated experience out of which two (2) years at a Supervisory level 

OR

• Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with eight (8) years of experience out of which two (2) years at a Supervisory level 

• Demonstrated experience in a relevant field such as general business management, private sector engagement, Market systems development, sales & marketing, supply chain strengthening, or social entrepreneurship.

• Preferable to have experience in providing business development support as well as supplies and purchasing in WASH sector, hardware or construction industry; and/or in the design and implementation of sales and marketing programs 

• Strong writing and communication skills both in Amharic and English are a necessity and knowledge of other local languages will be an added advantage.

• Must demonstrate mastery of computer skills in word processing, Excel for budget and spread sheet work and excellent presentation skills.  Skills in data processing will be an advantage.

• Must demonstrate strong interest and commitment to WASH and specifically for Market based sanitation 

• Ability and willingness to travel to project activity regions and woredas as required
