Job Description

Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company. The parent company has different mine projects in Mali, cote dIvoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the owner of Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State.

KGM is using local and expat professionals, and foreign/local consultants to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently is looking for professionals in many disciplines to execute its operations diligently and to the international standard.

KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.

General: -

Employment condition: Full-time (Permanent after probation period).

Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda, Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Overview:

The role is required to provide a service to Kurmuk Projects in Ethiopia by establishing a sustainable and achievable management plan that will ensure all Health, Safety, Environment and Social Performance systems (structures, policies, processes & people) are appropriately managed and optimized in support of the construction/operation of the Projects.

Responsibilities:

Health

  • Develop and supervise an occupational health program including pre-employment, periodic and exit medical examinations.
  • Develop/Supervise an industrial hygiene program based on a health risk assessment
  • Supervise the development of the medical response plan for clinic management (team and equipment)
  • Ensure patient care and treatment are delivered optimally and cost-efficiently.
  • Introduce and monitor ongoing success of preventative programs i.e., the malaria control program, and Industrial hygiene controls for chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical hazards.

Safety

  • Develop and maintain a health and safety management system aligned with ISO 45001
  • Develop/conduct baseline risk assessments and site risk registers.
  • Develop a site annual Occupational health and safety plan based on sound safety science.
  • Develop a site emergency response plan and a well-trained emergency response team.
  • Introduce and maintain a risk management system inclusive of incident and accident investigation and corrective action processes and procedures in accordance with the Allied standard.
  • Lead and conduct Incident Analysis and Investigations.
  • Oversee regular reviewing and updating of standard operating procedures and operational manuals.

Environment

  • Develop and maintain a strong management system in alignment with the EPCMs one to ensure an ongoing and growing awareness of Environment protection in the workplace. (including Land clearance process)
  • Ensure that the appropriate management plans are in place and executed in accordance with the requirements of the ESIA.
  • Supervise the Environmental monitoring program.
  • Lead and conduct Incident Analysis and Investigations.
  • Identify and implement the latest environmental impact measuring technologies to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct independent safety / environment audits and assurances to proactively ensure and manage internal and external compliance.

Social Performance

  • Develop and maintain a strong management system on Social Performance including Stakeholder engagement, social development, and land acquisition.
  • Ensure that the appropriate management plans are in place and executed in accordance with the requirements of the ESIA.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the operational areas including (but not limited to) regulators, administrative authorities, local authorities, NGOs/CSOs, and cultural bodies etc
  • In close cooperation with the HSE and Security departments, manage social, socio-economic, and human rights impact assessment (stand alone and as integrated within the ESIA process) and associated action planning and execution.
  • Oversee the execution of land access & acquisition standard to support the development of the project in accessing land and providing compensation to impacted communities in a timely and appropriate fashion and in accordance with agreed processes.
  • Support other company initiatives (environmental awareness, local content etc) which contribute to social performance management as requested.
  • Identify, report and provide advice and guidance on all social risks that could impact the Social Licence to Operate of the projects.

Other duties

Finance & Commercial:

  • Comply with budgeting and business accounting principles.
  • Utilize financial control practices for overall costs management.
  • Comply to procurement standards and procedures.
  • Drive cost optimization plans and initiatives.
  • Monitor and report against monthly expenditure and control variances to ensure financial compliance.

Leadership / management:

  • Create a culture of performance to achieve business objectives.
  • Lead collaborative teamwork and encourage individual contribution.
  • Maintain fairness and objectivity in difficult decisions.
  • Provide direction and continuous guidance to ensure focused outcomes, behavior, and team contributions.

People:

  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the team, promote and develop the skills, Lead formal career development.
  • Develop employees continuously to improve their competence and understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of the business.
  • Develop a staff training program to support department succession and continuity plan.
  • Introduce and maintain a pipeline of immediate successors through coaching, mentoring, and training.

Compliance and Business Improvement:

  • Ensure compliance with legislative and company policy and procedures.
  • Conduct and control risk assessments and respond appropriately to outcomes.
  • Drive and encourage continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bsc/MSc in Health, Safety, Environment and Social Management or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10 to 15 Years experience in Health, Safety, Environmental and Social performance Management. within a mining environment including experience of construction of a project is advantages.
