About Humanitarian Energy Plc
Humanitarian Energy is a private company established in 2022 that aims to provide access to clean and sustainable energy for refugees and displaced people. We work in partnership with local communities, governments, and other stakeholders to implement innovative and context-specific solutions for energy needs.
With an estimated 89.3 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, and the average refugee camp lasting 20 years, HumEn believes that more can and should be done to provide sustainable energy solutions to those who need it the most; and this is where Humanitarian Energy bridges that gap with clean, quality, and affordable services for humanitarian settings, organizations, and operations, in Ethiopia and beyond.
For prospective clients, Humanitarian Energy designs, nances, constructs, and operates capital-intensive clean energy infrastructures, thereby meeting the clean energy needs and carbon reduction aspirations through commercially sustainable models. Humanitarian Energy contributes to the energy transition agenda of the humanitarian sector to cleaner, and more sustainable energy solutions than those currently in use.
Humanitarian Energy's offering includes a) the deployment of hybrid solar PV mini-grids to power life, businesses and humanitarian operations in displaced communities through pre-paid metering systems, and b) an asset leasing model for turn-key stand-alone systems for humanitarian agencies and operations. The company assumes the responsibility for the operations and maintenance of deployed systems, freeing clients from any hassle and ensuring their satisfaction.
Humanitarian Energy and its partners, including Mercy Corps as the majority investor in Humanitarian Energy, are committed to proving that commercial initiatives for sustainable power supply at scale can and should operate in humanitarian settings. Humanitarian Energy has been awarded a mini-grid and ESCO licenses to deploy energy systems in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, with a healthy expansion/pipeline nationwide.
