Tetra Tech Inc. is working on USAID-Ethiopias Engineering Services and Construction Oversight Phase III (ESCO-III) project. The project includes providing engineering services and oversight for health facilities, warehouses, rural & urban water supply and sanitation (WASH) facilities, and similar.
Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking expressions of interest for a Civil Engineer - Mid (WASH - Sanitary Engineer) to work on a USAID-funded project under ESCO-III and mainly support the WASH program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, with a focus on sanitary engineering principles and practices. The successful candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and thus an inquisitive mind, solid technical background in engineering, and knowledge of general construction practices with a strong desire to apply engineering principles to unique and complex engineering projects are desirable.
- Women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position. The Civil Engineer - Mid (WASH - Sanitary Engineer) will be responsible for the following activities:
- Perform civil engineering services in the planning, design, and construction administration of new and renovation of USAID WASH facilities.
- Prepare and update weekly oversight reports, project trackers, defects logs, and other deliverables and submit to WASH Program Manager for review on a timely manner.
- Provide technical input and support resolution of technical and other related issues, as required.
- Provide technical input for any queries USAID may raise on construction works done by the implementing partners/contractors, as required.
- Review feasibility studies to assess the suitability of proposed sanitary infrastructure projects.
- Review design systems to treat surface water sources, wastewater treatment units, and faecal sludges management facilities safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Provide implementing partners with technical support and subject matter expertise on water resources and treatment issues.
- Provide input for responses to implementing partners /contractors requests for information (RFI).
- Demonstrate proficiency on structural and water engineering design, in addition to Sanitary engineering design.
- Review material/equipment and methodology Submittals.
- Perform periodic field observation visits to project areas in different parts of the country. .
- Proactively assess and solve project technical problems, adding value, innovation, maintain knowledge and subject matter expertise
- Participate in meetings, workshops, and trainings, as required.

Essential educational, experience, and competency requirements are:
- Applicant must be Ethiopian citizen.
- Hold a bachelors degree in civil engineering/environmental engineering/water supply and Sanitation Engineering or equivalent.
- Ethiopian Engineering License, or eligibility for license.
- Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible civil/environmental/water supply and sanitation engineering experience with WASH facility design & Construction Oversight, and collaboration with multi-discipline engineers; experience with fecal sludge management and wastewater treatment projects is highly desirable.
- Relevant design and site supervision experience, preferably on USAID or donor-funded construction activities
- Experience in development, rehabilitation and operation of water treatment unit, municipal fecal sludge treatment plant, and transfer stations. Expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software and Microsoft package.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and proficiency with technical reports.
