TEAM PURPOSE:

To act with poor people as a force for change in addressing the causes of poverty, suffering and injustice, and alleviating their symptoms.

JOB PURPOSE:

IT Assistant is responsible to ensure that Oxfam staff within a country can use information technology and regional information systems, including email, networks, PC, Peoplesoft / OPAL and other corporate applications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To work with Sr. IT officer in developing Gambella IT capacity through the use of a variety of training and support techniques.
  • Act as the contact person within the offices for all IT related issues. Communicating with internal and external contacts to support the functional business needs.
  • Organise and conduct formal Induction, build user capacity on good IS practices and offer specific application training as required
  • To manage the upgrade and installation of appropriate office systems including PC LANs, communications equipment, desktop software, email clients etc.
  • When required, provide direct hardware and software support in the Oxfam Project offices
  • Provide first level hardware maintenance and upgrades. Assist in administration and monitoring of server systems in Gambella office.
  • Implement and monitor system availability and ensure backup system is available in the office.
  • Assist in monitoring personal computers running Oxfam software and is available for users as required.
  • Assist in creation of AD accounts, logging calls on service now and attend all calls raised by users.
  • Ensure the office machines are functional and assist in regular preventive maintenance activities.
  • Support programmes in implementing and maintaining applications that assist them in their day to-day work while ensuring that all software and hardware installed in the offices conform to OGB IS policies.

SKILS, Experience, Knowledge & Competencies

Essential:

  • BSc in computer engineering, Computer science or related field of studies
  • At least three (3) years of practical experience on networked environment preferably NGO setting
  • Professional training on computers, with knowledge on Local Area Networks, servers (basic hardware and software) Technically competent in area of specialization and/or experience in IT workflows.
  • High level of competence in development and implementation of computerized systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Use of initiative in problem solving.
  • Learns/follows Oxfam policies and (technical) procedures to do the job.
  • Suggests new ways to improve the work process. Contributes to team building.
  • Solves problems with appropriate upward referral.
