Job Description

Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization founded in October 1999. Since its establishment, MSD has been implementing different programs in collaboration with partners on providing broad range of HIV prevention, care and treatment services and Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH), Migration & Trafficking, Good Governance, Education and Child Development in different parts of the country.

MSD is a child safe organization and all successful applicants will be required to sign the Safeguarding Code of Conduct. The safety and wellbeing of children and at-risk adults are priorities of MSD. The organization provides a safe environment in all its programs and activities. MSD is looking for qualified and competent applicants for the following position:

Project Summary

The project entitled Multi-year Protracted Crisis Ethiopia Joint Responses (2024-2026) is an integrated project that consists of WASH, Protection, FSL, Health and MPC sectors financed by the Dutch relief alliance. The objective of this project is to provide complimentary multi-sectoral and integrated lifesaving humanitarian support to conflict and/or drought affected people in need - both displaced and non-displaced, in the target locations, prioritizing the most vulnerable population, and facilitate early recovery and resilience of communities, while ensuring that that gender, protection, accountability to affected populations (AAP), and prevention from sexual exploitation abuse and harassment (PSEAH) are well integrated across the different service.

Job Summary:

As a Community Worker Protection, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing protection activities within the community, with a focus on vulnerable individuals including children, women, and elderly. You will work closely with community members, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to identify and respond to protection concerns, including gender-based violence, child protection, and access to essential services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage with community members to identify protection risks and vulnerable individuals, and provide support in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Conduct regular outreach activities to raise awareness on protection issues and promote community participation in protection activities.
  • Provide direct support to individuals at risk or survivors of protection violations, including conducting assessments, developing individualized care plans, and making appropriate referrals to services and resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case records and ensure timely follow-up and monitoring of referred cases.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops on protection principles, rights awareness, and gender-based violence prevention for community members and relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with community leaders to build local capacity in addressing protection concerns and promoting a protective environment for vulnerable individuals.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable individuals within the community and represent their interests in relevant forums and networks.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local service providers and authorities to ensure coordinated and holistic support for protection-related interventions.
  • Prepare regular reports on protection activities, case management outcomes, and community feedback to contribute to program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all protection-related activities and interventions.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, community development, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven experience in community engagement, protection, or social work, preferably in humanitarian or community development contexts.
  • Understanding of protection principles, gender-based violence, child protection, and human rights frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community members and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage caseloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for data management and reporting.
