A preeminent First Responder, International Medical Corps provides emergency relief to those hit by disaster, and offers the skills needed to rebuild stronger. We train people giving communities the tools and knowledge to be self-reliant and be their own best First Responders when disaster strikes again.
This position will have the responsibility of organization, planning and implementation of nutrition program for project in Bokolmayo field office. Additionally, he/she will be involved in conducting nutrition training for International Medical Corps and MOH staff for nutrition programs. The Nutrition Officer will work under the guidance of Emergency program Manager. The Nutrition Officer will help in site assessment and training basic understanding of elements of Community-Based management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), and skills for the feeding of malnourished children.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Provide technical and logistical support to the woreda health sector for effective implementation of Positive Deviance hearth approach interventions activities and come up with innovative ideas for effective implementation.
Analyzing and reporting nutrition situation and prevailing trends
Facilitate TOT and volunteer trainings on Basic PD hearth approach
Strengthen GMP screening and link beneficiaries with PD hearth activities
Develop and adapt IMC IYCF/ECD materials to the local context based on previous materials and current child rearing practices and needs
Serve as the primary point of contact between IMC and local partners
Assist nutrition staff and lead mothers on counsel and strengthen the PD hearth project in the HPs and community level.
Educate other staff about key aspects and components of PD hearth and ECD/IYCF (e.g. child development, improvement of mother-child interaction, and group support focused on IYCF)
Send monthly reports and updates on the PD activities to head office
Promote gender equity and equality through each level of nutrition activities
Plan with HEWs and other health workers working in Health posts to conduct complimentary feeding demonstrations for effective, sustainable and efficient implementation of PD hearth and IYCF interventions
Provide technical support to MoH health staff on management on PDH
Actively participate in Baseline, SMART and IYCF surveys
Facilitate the procurement of materials based on the budget
Review pipeline and procurement plan regularly
Perform supportive supervision of PD hearth activities and ensure they are implemented as planned
Ensure the cards, GMP registration books and other necessary formats are filled and documented proper
Ensure the nutrition items are provided to the health facilities and reach to the intended beneficiaries
Establishing linkage with community leaders and representatives
Organize review meeting at each woreda to review the progress of health intervention at the woreda level.
Perform another Other duties as required
Job Requirements
Degree in nutrition or nursing or public health with 3 years of experience or diploma in nutrition or nursing or public health with 5 years of experience-Renewed MoH professional license is important
Experience on emergency nutrition and PHEM intervention like CMAM, IYCF, major epidemic diseases surveillance and epidemic/outbreak investigation and response
Training on CMAM and IYCF
Experience of facilitation of training and review meetings
Fluent in written and spoken English language
Knowledge of local language to the respective Woredas
Good computer skills (Word, Excel)
Ensure that IMCs food security program and approach is in line with policies and strategies of the Government of Ethiopias as well
