Job Description

Ethiopian Pediatric Society (EPS) is a voluntary professional association, representing pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, pediatrics residents, and other people who work with and care for children. The Ethiopian Pediatric Society was founded in 1995, as a national society of pediatricians, committed to working together with governmental & non-governmental organizations for children and youth by nurturing excellence in health care, advocacy, education, research and support of its membership. The Ethiopian Pediatric Society would like to invite potential candidates to apply for the position of a Consultant for Senior Project Coordinator.

Duties and Skills

Job Overview

The purpose of this consultant Senior Project coordinator position is to support the project manager in the implementation and accomplishment of the objectives of the Ethiopian pediatrics society (EPS) in line with project Implementation of WHO preterm/low birth weight Guidelines in Ethiopia. WHO has made several new recommendations for the quality care of the Small and Sick Newborn (SSN). The EPS in collaboration with funding institution wanted to implement those new guidelines to improve the care of preterm infants. Thus, the society wants to improve the capacity of health workers to implement these guidelines as standard of care to improve the survival of the SSNB.

Responsibilities for the consultant Project Coordinator

  • Determines and defines project scope and objectives
  • Develops and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
  • Provides project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
  • Monitors progress and make adjustments as needed
  • Measures project performance to identify areas for improvement
  • Periodically visits field activities and provides formal and informal feedback to the project staff in terms of adequate and inadequate progress as well as recommendations for improved performance;
  • Maintains ongoing communication with Federal, and Regional level project stakeholder regarding project progress and challenges;
  • In consultation with project manager, organizes a monitoring system to collect baseline and periodic data for tracking project performance and decision making;
  • Plans and conducts quarterly project review meeting to assess progress, adjust plans, and draw/disseminate lessons learned; comprehensive project progress reports;
  • Establishes and maintains formal and informal communication mechanisms with government and other stakeholders;
  • Participates in meetings held at different levels (Federal, Regional) as appropriate to discuss project related issues;
  • Any other duties assigned by project manager

The position is based in Addis Ababa EPS office with travelling to the project sites.

Salary is by negotiation with six months contract with the possibility of extension as per the performance of the consultant project coordinator

Job Requirements

Qualifications for Project coordinator

  • MPH
  • Advanced literacy in computer science,
  • 3-5 years of project coordination experience
  • Experience as a National project coordinator at the Ministry of health preferred
  • Experience in SSNC improvement programs.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
  • Proven experience in designing and managing electronic data collection platforms such as ODK, kobo
  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and extreme resourcefulness
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline
  • Having License in health consultancy service is preferred.
