Job Description

GAIN was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. It has a global, Swiss-based foundation that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition.

GAIN contributes to fighting malnutrition in Ethiopia through innovative and sustainable models that increase access to safe, affordable, and nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to malnutrition. In this regard, Gain is currently implementing a project called Economic growth through fruit transformation, which is working on fruit processing in collaboration with various private and government sectors. Capacity building of educational institutions on the identified fruit processing technologies is one of the projects outputs. To sustainable transfer of knowledge and skill of identified fruit processing solution through TVTs and collages as well as creating linkage between fruit processing companies and training institutions, the technical skill training are identified as one of the best solutions within the project scope. During finalizing the action pan following the skill gap assessment, we planned to hire a consultant to develop a training material and deliver the TOT training to those TVET and Agro processors who participated in skill gap assessment. Thise activity will help for the TVET and agro processors to boost or enhance their internal capacity and creates a strong collaboration between the two sectors. Furthermore, this technical training creates awareness for TVET and Agro processing staff on concept of nutrition and food safety beyond the agro processing and manufacturing.

The training material development should focus on the following points in line with identified gaps.

The basic concept of nutrition on fruit and vegetables agro processing.

New fruit and vegetable processing equipment for example solar dryer, Referactance window dryer, dehytech solar dryer, tools, processing methods and packaging.

Food safety and standard requirements govern processed fruits and vegetables.

Includes practical demonstration of fruit and vegetable processing within the TVET to the nearest agro-processing company.

Key soft skills that relevant to cascade the knowledge and skill listed in the material.

Scope

  • Produce acceptable technical training material in English with additional outputs including the practical sessions.
  • Validate the training material.
  • Conduct the training and practical demonstration for TVET and agro-processor staff based on the material developed in Addis Ababa/Adama and Hawassa.
  • Conduct pre- and post-assessment to evaluate the understanding of the participants and the rate will be analysed in the end report.
  • Final report that includes both components (material development and TOT training) and recommendations

General Objective

To develop technical training material and deliver TOT training for TVETs and Agro processors with in the four regions (Sidama, Oromiya, Southwest Ethiopia, Addis Ababa).

Specific objective:

To develop, revise, and finalize technical training material including the practical part based on the recommended action plan of the gap assessment.

To deliver the TOT training to TVETs and agro-processors staff.

To evaluate the understanding of the participants of the training before and after the activity.

To produce a final report including both components and recommendations.

Responsibility of GAIN

GAIN will send invitation for participants and arrange the training venue and other required services.

GAIN will cover peridium, accommodation and transport cost for those participants coming from the other location.

GAIN does not pay for consultant travel related expenses.

Job Requirements

Masters degree in nutrition, food science, entrepreneurship, agro-business and other related fields.

At least 5 years experience of technical material development and delivering training for TVET and Agro processors.

Demonstrate soft and analytic skills.

Demonstrate a strong understanding and knowledge of nutrition and agro-processing, especially fruit and vegetable processing.

Proven, excellent English, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to be sensitive and inclusive with diverse learners.

Budget

Applicants are required to provide GAIN with a detailed fee on their financial proposal. For the services in accordance with the conditions of this RFP. Please note that all prices are subject to withholding tax.

Format for proposal

The proposal needs to be formatted as follows:

A detail technical proposal not more than 5 pages indicating major milestones to be done. It should include the timeline and the necessary tools and templates to be used for the training. Proposals exceeding 5 pages will be automatically disregarded, but any supporting documents can be annexed.

A detail financial proposal indicating all the necessary activities with budget in Ethiopian birr and sealed separately.

Unacceptable

The following proposals will automatically not be considered or accepted:

Proposals that are received after the RFP deadline.

Proposals received by fax.

Incomplete proposals.

Proposals that are not signed.

Technical proposals exceeding the specified number of pages.

Revisions

Proposals may be revised by electronic mail and confirmed by hard copy provided such revision(s) are received before the deadline.

Acceptance

GAIN will not necessarily accept the lowest cost or any of the Proposals submitted. Accordingly, eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria and mandatory requirements shall govern.

Completion

Proposals must be submitted on official letterhead of the lead organisation or firm and must be signed by a principal or authorising signatory of the lead firm or organisation.

In case of errors in calculating overall costs, the unit costs will govern.

It is the applicant's responsibility to understand the requirements and instructions specified by GAIN. In the event that clarification is necessary, applicants are advised to contact the responsible person at GAIN under section II. point 1., prior to making their submission.

References

GAIN reserves the right, before awarding the Proposal, to require the applicant to submit such evidence of qualifications as it may deem necessary, and will consider evidence concerning the financial, technical and other qualifications and abilities of the applicant.
