Job Description

Infinity Advanced Technology Solutions P.L.C. (IATS) is a leading medical equipment distributor and technical service provider in Ethiopia. Currently the company needs to hire a qualified personnel for the following vacancy:

Position: Learning and Development Specialist

Job Summary

The learning and development specialist (LDS), under the general supervision of the HR Manager, is responsible for the oversight of the learning and professional development of the companys workforce. The LDS is responsible for training needs identification, planning, execution and evaluating training programs in the company. In addition, the LDS will be responsible for implementing and monitoring appraisal schemes. The LDSplans and administer programs that train employees and improve their skills and knowledge.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Conducts needs analysis and research (through surveys, job analysis, appraisal schemes, interviews with employees, and consultations with managers) relative to new training and staff development programs for departmental application;
  • Confers with departmental managers regarding performance based objectives by identifying work situations that may require preventive or remedial training for employees and determining the contributory value of training and development programs in attaining these objectives.
  • Develops a formal Comprehensive Training Plan (individual and organizational learning plans) based on a training needs analysis or needs assessment.
  • Reviews employee classifications including the knowledge, skills and abilities and ensures that, the training plan meets the technical and supervisory needs of the department and are aligned with the department's annual plan, and company mission statement.
  • Design and create training manuals, online learning modules, and course materials
  • Develop effective induction programmes for new staff, apprentices and graduate trainees
  • Confers with departmental managers in the selection and training of departmental employees to serve as specialty trainers;
  • Trains and monitors instructors and evaluates their effectiveness; determines and selects appropriate instructional methodology (face-to-face, digital and blended learning options)
  • Delivering and overseeing the training of individuals or groups
  • Review training materials frommultiple sources and choose appropriate materials
  • Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques
  • Select, adapt, amend and revise available training materials to prepare localized training materials for training needs programs as necessary,
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs provided to employees;
  • Plan and assess the 'return on investment' of any training or development program, considering the costs of planned programs and keeping within budgets;
  • Monitor and review the progress of trainees through appraisals, questionnaires and discussions with managers, and provide trainees with timely and constructive feedback
  • Evaluate training and development programs, and prepare reports for management in areas such as usage, engagement and performance
  • Help trainees, line managers and trainers to solve specific training problems, either on a one-to-one basis or in groups
  • Promote a work culture of continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Keep up to date with developments in training by reading relevant journals, going to meetings and attending relevant courses
  • Research new technologies and methodologies in workplace learning and present this research.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the overall training and development programs within the framework of the organizational and department's formal Comprehensive Training Plan.
  • Prepares training budget; researches external funding resources for training programs; prepares grant applications; performs cost benefit analysis to determine most practical and effective means to achieve objectives within budget constraints.
  • Maintains contact with training institutions, local colleges, universities and technical schools as they relate to the training needs of the department and its employees.
  • Maintains records of employee training history and ensures compliance with applicable accreditation policies.
  • Evaluates marketed training programs for utilization by department(s).
  • Manage processes in the area of performance management (performance appraisal and promotion) providing support and guidance to colleagues, staff members and managers;
  • Manage the activities pertaining to the area of learning and development, from skills/ learning needs analysis, training design, training deployment and training evaluation.
  • Contribute to the development and review of new and existing policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions in the areas performance management and/or in the area of learning and development;
  • Interpretation and implementation of the Staff regulations and implementing rules, in the areas of performance management (annual performance review and promotion exercise) and/or in the area of learning and development;
  • Performs related work as required.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualification and experience

EDUCATION:

A masters or bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, and related fields

Training of Trainers (TOT) certified,

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Minimum five years experience for Masters and 7 years experience for bachelors degree as an employee trainer, a training coordinator, a training administrator, a training consultant, or as a human resources professional, which has included designing and conducting employee training and development programs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE:

  • current trends, developments and theories in organizational learning, development and training
  • adult education and in-service training principles, practices, and techniques adult learning theories and effective presentation strategies;
  • Research methods and techniques.
  • Methodologies used to conduct a training needs analysis.
  • Program development principles and techniques.
  • the components of an effective comprehensive training plan
  • project management
  • management and leadership principles and practice

SKILL IN:

  • computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and other software applications as required by job assignment;
  • write and speak effectively and develop multimedia presentations to present material to diverse audiences;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental officials, employees, and others;
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and motivate people at all levels of an organization

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
