About the Project

Horticulture 4 Growth (H4G): Initiative of the Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACCs) is a new $6M, 5-year project being jointly implemented by TechnoServe and the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), funded by the Bi& Melinda Gates Foundation. H4G will accelerate the transformation of Ethiopia's horticulture sub-sector by leveraging the power of the private sector to strengthen the link between production and dema d and improve the road-to-market for horticultural products through modernized domestic and export market channels. The project will primarily focus on five priority horticulture crops (banana, Avocado, tomato, onion, and avocado) sourced from horticulture ACC woredas to transform the relationships of key market actors to be more inclusive and equitable. By the end of five years, a strengthen horticulture market system underpinned by a strong private sector will enable Ethiopian small-scale producers to earn higher, more stable incomes and increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in rural and urban areas

Position Description 

The Market Analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely collection, analysis, and reporting of data to support evidence-based decision making within the organization. This involves working closely with various market system actors to develop, pilot, and implement new, more inclusive ways of doing business that meet market needs, generate economic benefits, and promote behavior change to strengthen the performance of the overall horticulture market system.

Duties and Responsibilities 

The Market Analyst duties and possibilities are described below:

Technical

  • Data Analysis; gathering, analyzing, and interpreting marketing data to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges, and reporting data to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Market Research; conducting research on fruit and vegetable consumer and market trends, and competing brands to inform marketing strategies.
  • Marketing Strategy Development; advising on market system and strategies based on data analysis and market research.
  • Competitive Analysis; Analyzing competitor’s activities, strategies to identify opportunities and threats;
  • Customer Insights; providing actionable insights on customer behavior, preferences, and needs to inform demand creation and marketing decisions.
  • Work with market system actors; Developing, piloting, and implementing new business models.
  • Business Advisory Services; providing business advisory services to partners and strategic data-driven guidance to the program
  • Data Accuracy and Reporting; ensuring data accuracy and consistent reporting.
  • Process Development; designing and creating optimal processes and procedures for analytics employees to follow
  • Advanced Data Modeling; using advanced data modeling, predictive modeling, and analytical techniques to interpret key findings from market research and private company’s data.
  • Leveraging insights into initiatives that support business outcomes.
  • Problem-Solving; applying knowledge of data analysis to solve real-world problems and find opportunities for improvement across multiple projects, teams, and business units.
  • Reporting and Communication; preparing detailed reports on consumer behavior, competitors' activities, and sales outcomes, and communicating findings to upper management and other stakeholders
  • Competitive Analysis; Analyzing competitors' activities, strategies to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Forecasting; forecasting future market, consumer, and sales trends to inform business decisions.
  • Customer Insights; Providing actionable insights on customer behavior, preferences, and needs to inform demand creation and marketing decisions;
  • Collaboration; working with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and product development, to ensure alignment and effective execution of marketing strategies.
  • Staying Up-to-Date; keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology, market trends, and consumer behavior to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Presentation and Visualization; creating presentations and visualizations to communicate complex data insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

To be successful in this role, a Marketing Analyst should possess:

A bachelor's degree/MSC; in a quantitative discipline, such as statistics, marketing, business administration, Agriculture, economics, cooperative management, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, related studies required

Skills

  • Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in analytical software, such as SAS, SPSS, and Google Analytics, as well as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with survey tools, and databases.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in an easy-to-understand format

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience on data collection and analysis, research, market strategy development, business plan development.
  • Strong preference for candidates from a management consulting private sector background
  • Demonstrated experience in both qualitative and quantitative market research
  • Very strong attention to details and commitment to high quality, error-free end products
  • Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports quickly and efficiently;
  • Strong analytical and financial analysis skills;
  • Strong planning skills and experience working to strict time-guidelines;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and project reporting skills a must;
  • Fluency in Amharic, English and one SNNPR/Sidama language
  • Knowledge of SNNPR/Sidama language is a plus;
  • Willingness to be based in Hawassa
