Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO) is a humanitarian, Civil Society Organization founded in 2014 that works in all regions of Ethiopia. ASDEPO fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. Under its mandate, the organization focuses on emergency humanitarian response, rehabilitation and post-conflict recovery.

Currently ASDEPO’s implementing Multi -sectoral Emergency response to support drought and conflict affected Communities in Afdem Woreda Siti Zone ,Somali Region For this reason ASDEPO is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the following position

Job description

The Hygiene and Sanitation Officer will play a vital role in promoting and implementing hygiene practices and behaviors within communities. The successful candidate will work closely with community members, stakeholders, and other team members to raise awareness about hygiene, deliver training sessions, and facilitate behavior change for improved sanitation and health outcomes, in Afdem Woreda Siti Zone ,Somali Region    

Role and Responsibility:

• Develop and implement hygiene promotion strategies and programs in collaboration with community members and relevant stakeholders.
• Conduct assessments to identify hygiene-related needs, behavior patterns, and barriers to behavior change within the target communities.
• Plan, organize, and deliver hygiene education sessions, workshops, and campaigns on topics such as handwashing, sanitation, menstrual hygiene, and waste management.
• Collaborate with community leaders, local organizations, and health professionals to facilitate hygiene promotion activities and initiatives.
• Mobilize and engage community members in hygiene promotion activities, ensuring their active participation and ownership.
• Provide one-on-one hygiene education and counseling to individuals or groups as needed.
• Develop and distribute educational materials, such as brochures, posters, and pamphlets, to raise awareness and promote hygienic behaviors.
• Conduct training sessions for community health workers, volunteers, and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in hygiene promotion. 

Location: Afdem Woreda,Siti Zone of Somali Region.

Contract Duration: 12 months

Salary: As per organization salary scale

Qualification:

• Bsc Degree in Environmental Health,Public Health and different hygiene related educations 
• Proficiency in spoken and written in local language (Somali Language).
• Strong in Computer and interpersonal communication.
• Demonsterate ability to work effectively in team environment.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of work experience in Hygiene and Sanitaion interventions. 
• NGO experience is required.

Desirable

• Knowledge hygiene promotion principles, theories and strategies is preferred.
• Knowledge of community development approaches and participatory methodologies.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
