JOB TITLE: Livestock Officer
REPORTS TO:ACCF Project Coordinator
STAFF(S) REPORTING TO POST HOLDER: None
LOCATION: Afar region; Awash Sebat Kilo
DURATION: 1 year with possibility of extension
BACKGROUND |
FARM Africa, founded in 1985, is an international non-governmental organization working in Ethiopia since 1988. Farm Africa works to end hunger and bring prosperity to rural Africa. We believe Africa has the power to feed itself and are helping make this happen by establishing and spreading the best farming and forestry techniques so that poor farmers and herders have more food to feed their families and to sell. We help smallholders manage their natural resources sustainably so that they can withstand climate change challenges and shocks and ensure their families have enough food in the future as well as now. FARM Africa works in partnership with communities, government, local and international organizations, and the private sector to innovate, learn and share best practices for maximum impact of our projects.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE |
The purpose of the field level Livestock Officer is to effectively and efficiently implement livestock interventions in the respective portfolio or Woredas and deliver the required outcomes and outputs at the community level in accordance with the contractual obligations of Farm Africa. The major project activities are: provision of community-based livestock management related services and development work
The Livestock Officer is responsible to work with and assist community members, institutions and CBOs in project planning, implementation and monitoring and facilitate training of community members, CBOs and institutions.

BSc in Animal Science, Veterinary, Rangeland management, Agriculture, and other related discipline; | MSc in Animal Science, Veterinary, Rangeland management, Agriculture, and other related discipline a related subject |
Particular knowledge and skills of Project planning & management, participatory and community led development approaches; and Interest to working in remote pastoral areas in a multidisciplinary team | |
Experience | |
A minimum of three years practical experience in emergency livestock interventions; | |
Experience of working in collaborative programmes with Government, Non-Government and Private Sector stakeholders is highly sought | |
Skills & Abilities | |
Skilled in participatory approaches to sustainable development especially at a community level | |
Strong communication and interpersonal skills | |
Teamwork skills and the ability to work in a multi partner approach | |
Skills in gender based analysis and approaches | |
Good community level facilitation and coordination skills | |
Good English language skills (written and spoken) | |
Excellent record keeping and report writing | |
Motor Bike driving skill and renewed license | |
Computer skills in MS Word and Excel |
