Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company. The parent company has different mine projects in Mali, cote d’Ivoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the owner of Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State.
KGM is using local and expat professionals, and foreign/local consultants to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently is looking for professionals in many disciplines to execute its operations diligently and to the international standard.
KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.
Overview of the Position:

As Social Performance Manager, you will be responsible for management of social performance activities associated with the development of the project, the remit of this role includes Community Engagement, Land Access & Acquisition, Social Impact Management, and Social Investment in alignment with the Group sustainability strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the Social Performance Management System in accordance with the requirements of the ESIA.
  • In close cooperation with the HSE and Security departments, manage social, socio-economic, and human rights impact assessment (stand alone and as integrated within the ESIA process) and associated action planning and execution.
  • Oversee the execution of land access & acquisition standard to support project development in accessing land and providing compensation to impacted communities in a timely and appropriate fashion and in accordance with agreed processes.
  • Develop the social economic development strategy
  • Support other company initiatives (environmental awareness, local content etc) which contribute to social performance management as requested.
  • Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation Audit: Ensure that all Social Performance reporting is aligned with standards, guidelines and schedules.
  • Provide guidelines and leadership on the best practices
  • Identify, report and provide advice and guidance on all social risks that could impact the Social Licence to Operate of the projects to ensure the site retains its social license to operate.
  • Ensure the effective functioning and reporting of onsite committees which impacts on the operations social license to operate.

Stakeholder Engagement & Consultation

  • Develop a stakeholder engagement plan and ensure the plan is embed by the site team (including stakeholder mapping, grievance mechanism and formal stakeholder engagement plan)
  • Develop the adequate reporting to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of engagement activities.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the operational areas including (but not limited to) regulators, administrative authorities, local authorities, NGOs/CSOs, and cultural bodies etc.
  • Work closely with the Country office for stakeholder engagement with national authorities
  • Establish a stakeholder map of potentials partners (NGOs, ….)
  • Represent company at local/regional events/forums with site team and ensure appropriate responses and messages are given

Community Development & Social Investment

  • Manage the acquisition of socio-economic baseline data in accordance with SGDs and ensure the findings are fully integrated into relevant business planning activities. (Social economic baseline completed)
  • Oversee the development of a robust social economic development strategy (including the strategy for social fund) combining short- and long-term initiatives, nationally and locally, including local content strategy
    nitiate value adding projects and methodologies and encourage employee contributions.

General Management

  • Contribute to risk assessments and management planning as required.
  • Participate and contribute to Social Performance audits/reviews (either internal or external).
  • Managing in collaboration with the communication manager, the production and dissemination of information with targeted publics through appropriate channels in line with the company mission and vision.
  •  Assist with the collection and compilation of social information for the ESG reporting and annual sustainability report.

Reports to: Project Director
Employment condition: Full-time (Permanent after probation period).
Location/duty station: Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site - Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Knowledge, Training, Experience & Skill Required:

  • Recognized qualification in social sciences / sustainability
  • 5 to 10 Years in a development/social performance environment, within the mining industry/heavy infrastructure or proven experience in the field of Sustainable Development.
  • Social Partner/Community Social Responsibility principles, systems, technologies, and trends
  • Project Management
  • Contract Management
  • Financial and cost management
  • Social Partner/Community Social Responsibility metrics and reporting
  • Previous experience in land access and displacement action planning according to World Bank/IFC standards
  • Ability to make critical decisions based on individual cases
  • Holding people to account
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) preferably English & Amharic
  • Negotiation skills
  • Planning and anticipation of risks
  • Solution orientated
