DEC is a local CSO established in 2007 and re-registered in May 2019 as per the new Authority for CSO Proclamation by the Ethiopian government bearing a registration number of 0009. The organization has five major programs: Child Well-being and Education Development Program, Gender and Life Skill Development, Employable Skills Development Program, Advocacy, and Humanitarian Emergency Program. DEC actively works in six National Regional States and one city administration of Ethiopia namely Amhara, Afar, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, and Addis Ababa City Administration. Major Duties and Responsibilities of Accountant
Maintains complete financial documentation in a clean, organized manner and files same in a secure place by maintaining confidentiality;
Manages the financial records (debits & credits) of and assists FOs in maintaining efficient and current financial records;
Prepare payroll and ensure government taxes are paid on time and in the correct figures;
Make separate electronic income and expenditure records;
Ensure that all supporting documents are in place and fulfill financial handling requirements of DEC;
Maintain a list of advances and obligations to be dealt with and report to immediate supervisor for timely follow up and to ensure that advances are not taken out before settling pervious advances;
Code, summarize and post transaction in the computer software and programs and ensure security of the data by maintaining both hard copies and electronic backups;
Prepare periodic financial reports and other reports upon request of the immediate supervisor;
Assists in the timely preparation and submission of annual budgets various financial reports to stakeholders (management, donor and government).
Suggest improvements in financial matters based on observed performance;
Prepare files for annual external audits; etc.

Qualification
BA in Accounting from a recognized university; or other relevant professional qualifications with 3 years CSO experience .
Advanced PC skills, particularly knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel as well as other financial software packages.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and Knowledge of government grant and contracting procedures
Advanced skill in IPSAS and Knowledge on Peachtree
Excellent networking skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
