BBC Media Action has been active in Ethiopia since 2001, as a registered organization with the Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO). Our 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopia Media Authority (EMA) allows us to work with local media on health and development issues across the country. We have a multi-disciplinary, gender-balanced team of national and international staff and in-house production infrastructure to provide end-to-end multimedia support as a communication partner. We have worked with numerous bilateral and multilaterals donors globally such as FCDO, UNICEF, UNHCR, Global Affairs Canada, EU, and others. 
Job purpose:
BBC Media Action Ethiopia is looking for two Project Managers that will be responsible for the overall management, coordination, reporting, and quality assurance of the two upcoming projects on communicating in humanitarian and post-conflict contexts. The role requires seasoned professionals with significant experience in project management, particularly in the fields of governance, peace-building and/or humanitarian programming. The Project Managers will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful implementation of the projects, adhering to the principles of 'do no harm' and 'leave no one behind.'
Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Project Leadership- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the project, ensuring alignment with the project objectives, timelines, and budget.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement- Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, local government bureaus, local NGOs, media representatives, and implementing partners. Collaborate closely to ensure coordination and effective information exchange.
  3. Resource Mobilization with key stakeholders to secure necessary resources for the project, including financial, human, and logistical support.
  4. Team Management- Oversee the recruitment, training, and management of project staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to execute their roles effectively.
  5. Project Planning and Documentation- Lead the development of a detailed project plan, including timelines, roles, responsibilities, risk assessment, and monitoring and evaluation framework. Ensure that project documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and complies with donor and organizational standards.
  6. Risk Assessment and Management-Proactively identify potential challenges and risks during project implementation. Develop and implement strategies for risk mitigation to ensure smooth project operations.
  7. Communication and Reporting-Maintain strong communication channels with UNMAS and other stakeholders. Prepare and submit timely and accurate project reports (including financial reports), highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  8. Cultural, Conflict, and Gender Sensitivity- Ensure that all project activities are culturally attuned, conflict-sensitive, and gender-inclusive. Work towards the promotion of human dignity, neutrality, and impartiality.
  9. Adaptability and Flexibility-Develop and implement mechanisms for adaptability and flexibility within the project, allowing timely adjustments to address emerging challenges and opportunities.
  10. Monitoring and Evaluation- Oversee the implementation of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework. Utilize data-driven insights to shape project initiatives and ensure ongoing effectiveness.
  11. Project Closure-Facilitate the demobilization phase, ensuring proper documentation, reporting, and closure of the project in collaboration with stakeholders.
     

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A DBS or other appropriate background check (depending on the country of residence) will form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.

Reports to: Senior Project Manager 

Salary: As per the organization scale 

Duration: 6 months (100%)

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Master's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years in project management within the last 10 years, with at least 3 years managing humanitarian, governance and/or peacebuilding projects within the last 5 years.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. Proficiency in English should be clearly indicated in the CV.
  • Recommended- Familiarity with working in Ethiopia or similar threat environments. Relevant project management certifications are an advantage.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to the principles of humanitarian and rights-based approaches. S/he should be adaptable, culturally.
  • Strong understanding of gender-related needs and concerns.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
