Introduction

The Brooke is a leading UK equine welfare charity which has been working in Ethiopia since 2006 with a country office in Addis Ababa. The Brooke aims to improve the welfare of working equines, together with the livelihoods of people dependant on these animals. Brooke Ethiopia (B-Eth) has entered a new Strategic phase and by the year 2020, the Brooke Ethiopia will sustainably improve the equine welfare of some of the neediest rural and urban equines in Ethiopia. In order to achieve this, the role of Driver/Logistics Assistants is critical.

Main purpose of the job:

To provide driving, and ensuring that all passengers are safe and that He/She also responsible for ensuring the Brooke’s vehicle and other goods are all secured. Moreover, he/she is responsible for providing other Administrative and logistics supports

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. Drive The Bkooke’s vehicles as required.
   1. Ensure that passengers and other road users are safe. 
   2. Ensure that everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt.
   3. Ensure that the vehicle and its contents are secure.
   4. Complete the log book for each journey.
   5. Keep the vehicle clean and tidy at all times
2. Ensure that the vehicle is kept in good condition
   1. Check the fuel, water, oil, and tires of the vehicle on daily bases.
   2. Ensure seat belts and other safety equipment is in good working order.
   3. Carry out minor repairs directly, and promptly report the need for garage repair.
   4. Prepare spare part required for vehicles maintenance & confirm that all purchased spare parts are used for the intended vehicle.
   5.  When garage repair or service is authorized, arrange the vehicle to be taken to the garage for repair of service.
   6.  Closely follow up and support the repair and maintenance activities. Ensure the garage made the maintenance properly.
   7. Confirm that maintained vehicles are functioning properly.
3. Safety
   1. Ensure that the basic road safety equipment is carried including a roadworthy, spare tyre, and other tools.
   2. Ensure that the vehicle carries a fire extinguisher as well as an effective first aid kit and asset of latex gloves.
   3. Report any theft of equipment or other property from the vehicle immediately.
4. Administrative and Logistics Support
   1. Give driving and other assistance to visitors Drive guests while in Addis Ababa and to project woredas as required by The Brooke Ethiopia.
   2. Follow up yearly examination of vehicles at road transport authority.
   3. Payment of bills periodically as required.

   4. Support with service providers such as insurance companies, banks, Ethiopian Inland Revenue & Customs Authority, ChSA, Government Organizations, and Non- Government Organizations etc as required by Project Team Leader.

   5. Obtain proforma invoice and/or purchased goods and equipment as requested.
   6. Deliver mail and documents as assigned.
   7. Perform other tasks as directed by the office.

Job Requirements 

• -  At least 4 years driving experience for NGO / government project vehicles in the community with an extensive knowledge of the road systems in Ethiopia.
• - Valid 3rd Grade or Public 1 driving license with exemplary history and knowledge of the regulations and bylaws for driving in Ethiopia.
• - Ability to drive on all-terrains to ensure the proper care of the vehicle and passengers inside, along with experience of how to safely recover a vehicle if becomes stuck.
• - Ability to perform vehicle maintenance checks and perform minor repairs such as replacing oil and tyres.
• - High school certificate with good spoken and written English skills and at least one of the main local languages.
• - Willing to work flexibly and undertake long-distance drives with overnight stays for up to a week at a time.
