COOPERAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Ethiopia started its operations in 1995 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief, and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition, and protection sectors. COOPI is currently implementing 10 projects in Ethiopia focusing on WASH and Livelihood, managing 7 field bases, and a staff of over 100 employees.

COOPI is looking for a qualified and competent Driver to be based in Addis Ababa.

Position: Driver (Female)
Number required: One (1)
Duty Station: Addis Ababa

Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Observe the rules of the Fleet Management Manual regarding the vehicles.

  • Keep the vehicles in good condition and perform checks in accordance with COOPI format.

  • Fill the forms(log sheet) for fuel and lubricant consumption for every trip.

  • Respect the necessary timetable for ordinary maintenance of the assigned vehicle as per the form.

  • Manage and process all duties at the road authority for the annual inspection.

 

Implementation:

  • Drive the vehicle assigned with responsibility, adhering to speed limits (Off-road: 60 km/h, Asphalt Road: 80 km/h).

  • Minimize dust damage to electronic apparatus by using A/C when necessary and possible, especially off-road.

  • For off-road trips longer than 50 km or cumulative off-road trips of more than 50 km, check the vehicle in accordance with the form.

Reporting:

  • Report any vehicle-related problems to the immediate superior for fixing. Any decision to stop the car for maintenance must be agreed upon with the project mechanic and communicated to the immediate superior.

External Coordination:

  • Communicate with the fleet manager and other drivers about updated vehicle technology and minor maintenance techniques at field levels.

Project Development:

  • Assist the project development team in regularly collecting information at stakeholder levels (Woredas, Kebele, and communities) for baseline needs assessment and gap analysis.

Main Purpose:

  • Perform the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in a COOPI vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country's traffic rules and COOPI security rules to provide a safe, smooth, and efficient service.

Accountabilities:

  • Check daily the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly checks according to the COOPI Logbook, refilling when necessary, and keeping the vehicle clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Perform a handover if another driver uses the vehicle.

  • Ensure the security of passengers, driving carefully, observing speed limits, and adhering to traffic rules and COOPI security rules to avoid car accidents.

  • Ensure all passengers have necessary papers before traveling and ensure non-COOPI staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle.

  • Ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submit documents to the receiver of the goods, check the status of delivered goods, return duly completed documents to Logistics, and ensure the goods have necessary documents.

  • Ensure all vehicle documents and the driver's driving license are valid and in the vehicle.

  • Inform the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.

  • Know and respect the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints, and roadblocks. Ensure all passengers know and respect the security rules.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Valid 3rd grade driving license.

  • High School completion plus a driving certificate.

  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a driver.

  • Good experience in driving off-road.

  • Experience in handling different liaising activities.

  • Experience with international organizations.

  • Good knowledge of safety and security standards.

  • Fluency in Amharic.

  • Good knowledge of English.
