Summary of Position

Under the USAID Learning Project Activity, Headlight Consulting Services is recruiting Data Transcriber to support the USAID Integrated Youth Activity (Kefeta) midline evaluation. The Data Transcriber will translate and transcribe audio records from local languages (e.g. Amharic, Oromiffa) to English. Data transcriber is expected to have excellent communication skills in English and Amharic and/or Oromiffa and be able to work with minimum supervision.

The Data Transcriber is expected to be able to work between three (3) and eight (8) hours per day.   Daily tasks include utilizing excellent active listening skills to transcribe and translate audio recordings from Amharic and/or Oromiffa to English and other local languages, and translating documentation from English into local languages (Amharic, Oromiffa, Afari, Somali). The Data Transcriber is expected to work on their own laptop and have regular access to an internet connection that allows upload and download of large files. 

Transcription and translation can be completed outside regular business hours, however the Data Transcriber will be expected to attend scheduled training and scheduled team meetings during regular business hours. 

Work will be conducted with confidential and sensitive data. The Data Transcriber will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure agreement.  Headlight reserves the right to conduct a  background check on qualified candidates. 

Candidates with experience in legal transcription and medical transcription are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• The overall task of this position is to participate in transcription and translation of the USAID Integrated Youth Activity (Kefeta) midterm evaluation data. More specifically the Data Transcriber and Translator will: 
• Collect and manage data files (interview transcripts and recordings) as per the protocol
• Translate and transcribe audio records from local languages (e.g. Amharic, Oromiffa) to English in a timely manner (minimum three hours of records per day)
• Reviewing and Editing data for any grammatical, spelling, or other errors, and upload to a specified Google Drive location on a regular basis 
• Regularly communicate and coordinate with the Headlight team to ensure smooth progress
• Cooperate with the analysis team for any further questions on the transcribed and translated data.
• Keep the confidentiality of the data 
• Comply with the ethical requirements of Headlight Consulting Services 

• Other duties as assigned
