Job Description

TITLE: CP-GBV Officer

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Child Protection

LOCATION: Shire

GRADE: 4A

TYPE OF CONTRACT:National

Job Requirements

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The CP-GBV is responsible to initiate, oversee and support the implementation of Child Protection and psychosocial support in emergencies strategies and activities for the Tigray conflict response. The CP Officer will be responsible for coordinating the work of and providing guidance to the Community CP Workers and ensure unaccompanied and separated children and other vulnerable children including SGBV issues are handled and responded properly. Also, as CP-GBV officer you will support psychosocial wellbeing of children and their families, including Psychological First Aid affected by the Tigray conflict, and will report to the CP/Education Coordinator with technical relationship with CP Specialist.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Manage and support the individual case management process including identification, documentation and referrals.

Provide problem solving solutions to community workers.

Coordinate with other agencies relating to interagency Child Protection and psycho social issues arising within the response region.

Liaise with local authority leadership regarding Child Protection and psycho social issues to be addressed at community level.

Facilitate regular meetings with local community leaders (zone leaders) regarding community based child protection and psycho social interventions and actions;

Facilitate participatory analysis and planning at Woreda levels to identify and prioritise risks posed to children;

Provide CP Community Workers with technical support regarding complex cases or specific technical difficulties

Contribute to the design of an overall programme contingency plan.

Produce timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information, on CP activities and input into regular situation reports.

Identify and build links with other partners, ensuring that issues for child protection and psycho social support are raised and addressed.

Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to Child Protection, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

Bachelors degree in social work, Sociology, Psychology and any other social science related fields

At least 2 years work experience in Child Protection and GBV work in emergency-related organisations; experience in refuge operation is advantage.

Desirable

Knowledge of internally displaced persons operations; knowledge of the area is an added advantage;

Experience in designing and facilitating training sessions;

Experience in working in an insecure environment

Knowledge of the TIGRAY region socio-culture and local language

Computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and internet research

Experience of children protection and case management activities

Willing to work with minimum supervision and field work

Female applicants are highly desirable
