We are looking for a Technical Advisor, Market Based Sanitation Capacity Building to support the institutionalization of key approaches tools and methodologies of Market Based Sanitation by (i) providing technical support; (ii) building capacity and knowledge transfer to public and private structure (iii) working with partners and stakeholders to create fertile environment for Sanitation and Hygiene Markets to thrive.

Your contribution

  • In collaboration with the WASH Market systems team, design capacity building strategy/activities for stakeholders from national to regional level to support the institutionalization of tested MBAWISH (market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene) approaches and tools.

  • Design and facilitate effective and efficient mechanisms for knowledge sharing and experience exchange on MBAWISH (market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene) approaches and tools 

  • Provide technical advice to the relevant sectors, on MBAWISH (market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene) this may include ensuring integration of market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene) activities in their annual plan, preparation of periodic reports or inputs into reports, attending performance review meetings, preparing summary reports/briefs on meetings, and dissemination of results.

  • Work with concerned government stakeholders’ staff on knowledge management to generate knowledge from routine program data, capture learnings, after action reviews, documentation and dissemination of technical briefs, reports and other program documentation products as needed.

  • Closely work with partners to ensure effective implementation of market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene) activities at national and regional levels.

  • Facilitate joint planning & review meeting, and joint supportive supervision of USAID Market for Sanitation with stakeholders.

  • Closely work with other concerned directorates and partners for establishment of Collective Impact Platforms (CIPs) for coordination of market Based Area Wide Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene).

  • Collaborate with the core market systems team to identify capacity building programs on sales business development and marketing and provide technical advice and support for institutionalization across the region.

  • Explore partnership opportunities with interested private sector partners to scale up the WASH business. 

  • Contribute to the development of metrics and establishment of a monitoring and evaluation framework for tracking progress for the project, specifically tracking market development among private sector partners. 

  • Carry out other duties as appropriate and as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Generic Duties of the Position:

  • Develop and implement the Division’s operational plans and objectives. 

  • Monitor and ensure the proper utilization of the Division’s budgets. 

  • Identify human resources requirements of the Division and develop plan for meeting the requirements. 

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of relevant Division procedures. 

  • Review, approve and submit Division reports to relevant organs. 

  • Support the development of subordinates through periodic performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, ongoing performance dialogue and feedback. 

  • Represent the Organization in external relationships related with the Division. 

  • Participate in group decision making processes by forming part of different groups/committees. 

What are we looking for? The basics

  • Master’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with five (6) years of demonstrated experience out of which two (2) years at a supervisory level 

    OR 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or related fields with seven (8) years of out of which two (2) years at a supervisory level 

  • Demonstrated experience in a relevant field such as general business management, private sector delivery of water and sanitation services, sales & marketing, supply chain strengthening, or social entrepreneurship 

  • Preferable to have experience in providing capacity building, business development support as well as supplies and purchasing in the sanitation, and hardware or construction industry; and/or in the design and implementation of sales and marketing programs in developing countries 

  • Must demonstrate mastery of computer skills in word processing, Excel for budget and spread sheet work and excellent presentation skills.  Skills in data processing will be an advantage.

  • Must demonstrate strong interest and commitment to WASH and specifically for Market based sanitation 

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, skills to promote teamwork and effort is essential. Experience in practical fieldwork and prior supervisory position will be an advantage.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to project activity regions and woredas as per need is required
