Salary:  USD 1,335 to 1,742 per month equivalent in Ethiopian Birr (converted monthly at prevailing exchange rate).

Job Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Alliance2015 Network (A2015) Strategic Coordinator position is to drive the network’s strategic direction, to steer and facilitate the implementation of the Alliance2015 in-country strategy, promoting, coordinating and supporting joint initiatives of all kinds, plus related learning, through effective collaboration and cooperation with the Country Directors (and other key staff) of member organizations, working groups and the global Alliance2

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

Implementing and revising the Alliance's joint strategy:

  • Lead the process of implementing the Alliance2015 Network (A2015) joint strategy, ensuring it translates into concrete actions and tangible results.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of the strategy's effectiveness, identifying and proposing areas for improvement and adaptation.
  • Facilitate collaborative discussions and consensus-building among member organizations to jointly revise and update the strategy as needed, incorporating new priorities, emerging challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure the strategy remains aligned with the Alliance2015 Network's mission, vision, and overarching goals in Ethiopia and globally.
  • Promote joint programming and other joint initiatives and consortia coordination best practice as relevant. 
  • Develop and manage the A2015 annual budget. 

Finalizing and implementing an advocacy strategy on food systems:

  • Lead the finalization and implementation of the A2015 advocacy strategy, working with member organizations to engage with decision-makers, stakeholders, and the public through targeted campaigns, policy briefs, media outreach, and strategic partnerships.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of advocacy efforts, tracking progress towards key objectives and adjusting the strategy as needed to ensure maximum effectiveness.
  • Closely collaborate with the A2015 global hub advocacy and communication working group. 

Operational Management:

Joint Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Implement and update the Alliance2015 Network joint emergency preparedness and response plan, ensuring its alignment with the national plans of government & key humanitarian bodies and fora.
  • Coordinate the response to emergencies in collaboration with member organizations and other stakeholders.

Coordination and Visibility:

  • Oversee the Alliance2015 Network coordination platform, ensuring it facilitates efficient communication and collaboration among members.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of A2015 documentation, including reports, guidelines, and communication materials.
  • Work on the branding and visibility of the A2015, including online and offline presence.

External Engagement and Donor Relations:

  • Manage external engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, civil society organizations, UN Agencies, and the private sector.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to secure resources and support for Alliance2015 initiatives.
  • Represent the A2015 in relevant meetings, conferences, and other events.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the donor mapping plan, conducting donor intelligence to inform strategic planning, positioning, and fundraising efforts.

 Event Management:

  • Organize and manage Alliance2015 Network events, including workshops, conferences, meetings, and high-level dialogues (such as the GHI launch).
  • Ensure the logistical and technical aspects of events are well-coordinated and executed.

Coordination and Collaboration

Facilitate and lead regular meetings and consultations with Alliance2015 Network members and working groups and liaise with the Global Hub:

  • Develop and maintain a clear calendar of meetings and consultations, ensuring regular engagement with all A2015 members and relevant working groups.
  • Prepare agendas, facilitate discussions, and ensure effective decision-making processes during meetings.
  • Capture key decisions, action items, and follow-up tasks from meetings and ensure timely implementation.
  • Maintain the regular communication with the global A2015 Hub, based in Brussels.

Ensure effective communication and information sharing among member organizations:

  • Maintain clear communication channels within the Alliance2015 Network, including regular email updates, shared online platforms, and dedicated communication tools.
  • Proactively disseminate information about A2015 activities, progress reports, and key developments to all members.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice exchange among member organizations, encouraging cross-learning and collaboration.
  • Identify and address any communication gaps or challenges to ensure smooth information flow within the Alliance2015 Network in Ethiopia.

Foster collaboration and joint action on key thematic priorities:

  • Facilitate the coordination of working groups or task forces focused on specific agreed/approved thematic areas.
  • Encourage and support joint initiatives and collaborative projects among member organizations, leveraging their combined strengths and resources.

Knowledge Management and Engagement:

Facilitate bi-monthly learning sessions for Alliance2015 members, staff, and local partners:

  • Annually plan a structured learning program for the Alliance2015 Network in Ethiopia, focusing on key themes, best practices, challenges and learning.
  • Facilitate bi-monthly learning sessions, inviting experts from the A2015 members and local partners. 
  • Document records and all necessary documents from each session for future reference and dissemination.

Learning and best practices

  • In collaboration with the Communications Working Group, capture joint project learning and best practices and disseminate/share these.

Implement the local partner engagement roadmap and action plan:

  • Lead the implementation of a roadmap and action plan for engaging local partners in A2015 initiatives.
  • Foster strong relationships and build trust with local partners, ensuring their voices and perspectives are heard and integrated into the A2015’s work and in national level initiatives.
  • Identify and support the provision of capacity-building opportunities and technical support with local partners, empowering them to contribute effectively to the A2015 goals.

Reporting and Monitoring:

  • Prepare regular reports on the Alliance2015 Network’s activities and progress in Ethiopia and participate in regular catch call with the global hub.
  • Monitor the implementation of the A2015 strategy and work plans.

Gender Equity 

  • Demonstrate understanding of Concern Worldwide Ethiopia’s Gender Equality Strategy (and equivalent strategies of other A2015 members).
  • Contribute to ensuring that Concern Worldwide Ethiopia is a place where men and women are treated equally and with dignity and respect (and similarly across the Alliance2015 Network in Ethiopia). 
  • Demonstrate gender equality awareness and gender sensitivity and an ability to integrate a gender equality perspective into tasks and activities.

Emergency response

Concern Worldwide and the other members of the Alliance2015 Network in Ethiopia is committed to responding to emergencies efficiently and effectively in order to help affected people meet their basic needs, alleviate suffering and maintain their dignity. To this end, when emergencies strike and A2015 members will respond, this role may be required to actively participate in the response, regardless of location and contribute to the efforts aimed at achieving the humanitarian objectives of the members of the Alliance2015 Network

  • Post holder must be able to seek appropriate advice, report concerns, and be confident to ensure that they have been understood.
  • Understand Concern Worldwide and A2015 safeguarding structures and arrangements.
  • Work and practice in a manner that seeks to reduce the risk of abuse, harm or neglect.

Accountability

In line with the A2015 lead agency, Concern Worldwide, and its commitments under the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS):

  • As relevant within this role, actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E).
  • Contribute to ensuring that the Feedback, Complaints & Response Mechanism (FCRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed – with relevant staff whenever appropriate.
  • Contribute to the effective dissemination of information about the FCRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour among programme participants and communities (when this is feasible and relevant).

Qualifications and Skills:

  • First or postgraduate degree in social sciences or related field. 
  • 6/8 years of related experience with postgraduate or with first degree respectively.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in leadership and coordination roles, preferably within the development and humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Significant experience in external engagement and donor relations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required

  • An ability to analyse and understand overall organisational/institutional capacity and development, including some expertise in at least two of the following areas: Project/Programme Management, Financial Management/Compliance, Strategic Planning, Systems Development, Governance, HR, Safeguarding, Logistics, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning.
  • Ability to build strong relationships within the Concern Worldwide team (as lead agency for the Alliance2015 Network) and all A2015 member organizations and external stakeholders.
  • High ability to communicate complex information in an accessible format. Strong capability to organise, prioritise your own work, and set strategic goals and targets independently with little supervision, while asking for support when appropriate.
  • Strong experience and skills in the design and delivery of trainings and workshops.
  • Facilitation skills, including the ability to facilitate difficult conversations.
  • Demonstrated mind-set and passion for continuous learning and process improvement
