The Project

Within the GIZ Program Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition", sequa implements the "SME Grant Scheme targeting growth-orientated SMEs" project in Ethiopia. With this, sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Ethiopian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided on women-owned SMEs, job creation, and employability training for women.

Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence/business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). A particular focus will be on advisory services to improve access to finance. The grant scheme will contribute to SMEs' change management and business growth.

Sequa has selected Saglan Wajee General Hospital (SWGH) through the vetting process for grant support. Saglan Wajee General Hospital is a medium-sized private hospital established in 2019 as a sol enterprise in Holeta, about 60 km from Addis Ababa. Its primary services include surgery, including cliff lip and palate mouth special surgery, medical, and maternity, with a price of 70% less than comparable private hospitals in Addis Ababa.

The objective of the assignment is to provide a comprehensive study on the feasibility of a Decentralized Speciality Health Center Network for SWGH in Ethiopia.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

• Identify the target population for the network, i.e., studying the target population's demographics, healthcare needs, and preferences in different geographical locations;

• Assess the current healthcare infrastructure around the centers locations;

• Determine the financial viability of the network based on appropriate investment metrics, i.e., estimate the initial investment required for setting up the centers, operational costs and potential revenue streams;

• Assess the availability of skilled healthcare professionals in the target areas, including doctors, nurses, and other specialized staff;

• Evaluate the technological infrastructure required for the decentralized network, including hardware and software;

• Analyze the legal and regulatory requirements for setting up and operating the network of decentralized speciality health centers;

• Present recommendations for the implementation of the network, including a detailed plan for establishing the centers and strategies for marketing and promoting the services to the target population.

Your Qualification / Skill

• Technical and methodological knowledge to conduct research projects and formulate conclusions based on a solid methodology, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability;
• Knowledge of investment metrics such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Return on Investment (ROI);
• Strong interpersonal skills with solid communication and presentation abilities.

Your Working Experience

• Substantial experience (at least five years) in conducting feasibility studies or other relevant evaluations and research projects,
• Experience in the healthcare sector and setting up (decentralized) networks is preferred.
