Job Description

Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) in partnership with Amref Health Africa implements Kefeta in Adama, Bishoftu and four sub cities in Addis Ababa Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youths who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity.

Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) in partnership with Amref Health Africa implements the Integrated Youth Activity/Kefeta program in Adama, Bishoftu, and four sub-cities in Addis Ababa. Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youths who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity. Kefeta will strengthen the youth ecosystem in Ethiopia with integrated, multi-sectoral, youth-centered programming aligned with the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach.

Job Summary: 

Youth Friendly Health Service Officer is responsible for working within the program staffs to successfully implement the organization’s and the project’s objectives in the areas of the project; effective planning, organizing, executing and reporting. The YFS Officer will assist in the development of youth-friendly services activities implementation with adherence to standards

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Advocacy, Mobilization and SBCC officer on planning and implementation of YFHS specific Advocacy, Mobilization and SBCC activities

  • Provide routine technical support and ensuring that all YFHS providers have updated information on YFHS /SRH and providing quality YFHS as per the required standards. 

  • Participate in developing, organizing, and facilitating trainings for Youth-Friendly Health Service Providers

  • Provide technical support and collaborate with YFH service providers and staffs at catchment SDPs to arrange event days for youth at their sites

  • Ensure and oversee the readiness of all Service delivery Points (SDPs) and that SDPs fulfilled the minimum requirements to provide quality YFHS to youth.

  • Enhance timely communication among service providers, local stakeholders and with immediate supervisors of the project

  • Provide technical support during Selection of Peer Mentors, developing, organizing, and facilitating trainings for peer mentors, and during cascading activities 

  • Lead the establishment of safe spaces for YFHS and SGBV survivors for young women and girls to increase access to quality and comprehensive YFH service delivery points,

  • Provide mentoring and coaching for health facilities, youth hubs (service delivery points)

  • Facilitate outreach activities for health care providers to provide YFHS for youth

  • Provide Technical Support to YFHS providers in Recording and documentation of best practices and lesson learnt and share to the relevant stakeholders. 

  • Oversee and support the linkage process within the health center and to other health service spots outside the positioned center as well as strive to work on establishing a partnership with in the target catchment. 

  • Provide technical support on proper and full documentation of cases in the log book/tally sheet/database of the clients at all SDPs, and ensure availability of all data recording tools

  • Provide strict Follow Up and technical support for YFHS providers for proper adherence with real time data entry to DHIS2 and reporting due dates. 

  • Provide support and follow-up on enhancing the proper functionality of support on commodity and supply chain, request and follow up on delivery, document, and report stock in and out medications. 

  • Provide technical support and ensure that there is a system for giving proper regular Health Education to clients and communities at vast. 

  • Provide technical support, in compiling and timely submission of biweekly, monthly, quarter, biannual, and annual reports with its proper documentation. 

  • Enhance positive work environment, respect colleagues, and create a positive work spirit among teams 

  • Support, conduct site assessments and participate in youth disability-targeted outreach programs as per plan 

  • Conduct frequent follow-up visits with providers to ensure adherence to YFS standards

  • Facilitate and Ensure that system for coordination with partners, local authorities in targeted areas is in place and collaborate through regular JSS, frequent follow-up visits and performance review meetings. 

  • Prepare and submit timely and quality activity reports, including field notes and success stories, to effectively capture lessons learned on the ground from the projects 

  • Effectively utilize the YNSD information management system, HR information system, and other financial platforms (ERP)

  • Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Salary: Asper the Organization Scale 

Qualification and Experience:

  • BSc in public health, Midwifery, Nursing and related fields with minimum of 3 years’ experience in the area of SRH/YFHS,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong commitment to working with youths

  • Experience of working in NGO’s specifically on youth projects

  • Experience in workshop/ trainings, campaign/events organizing

  • Proficiency in the English language, written and spoken

  • written and spoking Afan Oromo is Advantageous

  • Demonstrated skills and significant experience in advocacy projects

  • Strong personal skills, organization and communication skills

  • Self-motivated and well organized

  • Proficiency in the use of computerized program

  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
