Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia (HFHE) is a branch of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI). HEHE is currently operating under Africa Habitat for Humanity International. Since it started operation in 1993, Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia has supported thousands of families and individuals.  Initially focused on mortgage houses for families affected by poverty and other vulnerabilities, the organization has expanded its efforts to incorporate vulnerable group housing, urban slum upgrading, urban resilience building, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and Disaster Risk Reduction Response (DR3)-WASH Resilience Building.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist communications function. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communication while working in HFHE’s work environment. The intern is expected to provide professional assistance to the Communications Manager in implementing HFHE’s communications strategies and plans. The Intern will work with the communications manager and, with other teams, to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives related to programming and events.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist in planning, writing, and managing communication materials and e-newsletters.
  • Update the organization's website with current events, relevant news, etc.
  • Design event/program fliers, graphics, and other marketing material.
  • Update all bulletin boards around the building on an ongoing basis.
  • Update and maintain HFHE’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling, and reporting Facebook updates.
  • Provide input for creative communication strategies and social media campaigns.
  • Manage editorial and event calendars.
  • Create online updates as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for communication

Qualification 

  • Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, Linkdin, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.
  • Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
  • Previous internship or related experience in communications is a plus
  • Understanding of the basic principles of public relations
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of HTML, website content management, and graphic design a plus
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine enthusiasm for creating compelling communication materials to support HFHE programming
  • Self-starter, good time management, creative, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and HFHE’s mission
