SENIOR COLD CHAIN MAINTENANCE EXPERT (SPECIALIST)

JOB PURPOSE:

Prepare specifications, undertake installations, troubleshooting, servicing, calibration, and management of cold chain equipment, cold rooms, air conditioning equipment specimen transportation vans, and trucks. In addition, provide training on basic operational principles, maintenance & repairs as well as overall management of refrigeration and cooling systems.

ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Prepare specifications, and undertake inspections, and installations of refrigerators, cold chain equipment, and air conditioning systems.
• Develop preventive maintenance plans for all kinds of refrigerators, air conditioning, and cold chain equipment systems.
• Repair and maintain various cooling systems. Checks system gauges and indicator devices for water, oil, refrigerant, and air pressure levels. Inspects for leaks and faulty functioning components to ensure proper operation of the systems.
• Repair and replace equipment parts including compressors, water pumps, fans, coils, electric controls, gauges, valves, meters, solenoids, humidity, and thermostats. 
• Maintain proper levels of water, oil, and refrigerants in the systems following procedures described in the maintenance manuals.
• Test power lines, components, and connections using appropriate electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing devices.
• Provide training of regional refrigeration technicians on installations, maintenance, and repair of refrigerators and cold chain systems.
• Provide technical assistance to regional refrigeration technicians on installations, maintenance, and repair of refrigerators and cold chain systems as required
• Train and mentor on maintenance of refrigeration and cooling systems 
• Accomplish other activities as assigned by her/his immediate Team leader 
• Follow up on the service and maintenance of the specimen transportation  refrigerated vans and trucks 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

• Ensure that the refrigeration system is ON at the right time.
• Trouble-shoot Air-Conditioning equipment malfunctions, diagnose problems, and perform maintenance on Refrigeration &Cold-room equipment.
• Maintain inventory of refrigerators and develop a replacement plan.
• Manage the safety of the Refrigeration rooms and workshops
• Participate in verification of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning spares purchased/supplied.
• Develop and maintain service and maintenance manuals as well as SOPs for preventive and curative maintenance of refrigeration and cold chain systems.
• Prepare activity plans and reports as directed by her/ his immediate Team leader 
• Participate in workshops, training, and continuous educational programs to improve her/his professional skills.
• Keep spare parts needed for refrigeration and cold chain systems’ maintenance & repair
• Make recommendations to replace equipment if the expected cost to repair exceeds possible replacement cost.
• Report all activities professionally in a proper manner as needed.

• Well-maintained safety standards in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

• Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering or at least Diploma degree or 10+3TVET Certificate in the Biomedical/electrical/mechanical/refrigeration field from a recognized College /University
• Certificate/s of supplementary training on the maintenance of refrigeration and cold chain systems
• Communication skills (communicates very well in English; both in writing and spoken)

EXPERIENCE:

More than six(6) years of experience for Bachelors and more than eight (8)  years of experience for diploma or TVET  in cold-chain equipment and Refrigeration system maintenance.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Mature, energetic and quick-witted
• Ability to work independently and for long hours.
• Computer skills in MS Office.
