JSI is a US-based public health nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance programs throughout the world. In Ethiopia, JSI has been working to improve health outcomes for more than 25 years, implementing more than 60 projects and working in every region. JSI has historically managed a large portfolio of projects focusing on the quality, and equity in access of, RMNCAH services, primary health care (PHC) including community health program, digital health, health information systems (HIS), supply chain management, public health emergency responses, and social and behavior change.
Activity Overview
USAID Quality Healthcare Activity (QHA) aims at improving health outcomes through improved readiness of health facilities to deliver quality reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services, increased management and accountability for quality service delivery, and restoration of services in health facilities in conflict-affected areas. QHA's strategies and implementation approaches will help the government of Ethiopia build public and private health care systems that are responsive, resilient, and sustainable. QHA will cover urban and peri-urban primary health care units (PHCU) and referral health facilities in selected regions and woredas. The Activity, through funding support from USAID, will be implemented by JSI in collaboration with Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), MSI Reproductive Choices (MSI), Project HOPE, and Network of Ethiopian Women's Associations (NEWA) for five years (May 01, 2023 - April 30, 2028)
USAID, through the Quality Healthcare Activity (QHA), will second a Senior Regional Coordination Advisor to the Amhara Regional Health Bureau (RHB) that will provide programmatic and technical assistance to support the coordination and implementation of regional health, nutrition, and emergency portfolios. This includes offering technical coordination among USAID health, nutrition, and emergency Implementing Partners (IPs) in the region, facilitating internal coordination and collaboration among USAID IPs, and maintaining coordination with non-USAID IPs, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
Key Specific roles and responsibilities
1. Coordination of the regional USAID Health, Nutrition and Emergency IP Forum Activities.
Provide overall planning, implementation and coordination of the regional USAID Health and Nutrition, Emergency IP Forum activities including:
2. Developing, monitoring, and evaluating performance of the regional Health, Nutrition and Emergency joint plans including.
3. Facilitating Partnership management, networking Advocacy, communication including:
4. Managing, creating, and maintaining linkages amongst other U.S. Government and non-U.S. Government partners, UN agencies, other regional government agencies, INGOs and others as case maybe.
Provide relevant information and updates to the USAID Amhara health IPs' national task force (NTF) through the NTF's secretariat and USAID's point of contact
Share minutes of the regional forum along with recommendations on action points to enhance response and recovery coordination
Foster collaboration with other U.S. Government and non-U.S. Government partners by representing, participating, and contributing at coordination meetings and technical working groups, and sharing information such as needs assessments and gap analysis
Ensure all regional IP members disseminate minutes of the regional forum to their national NTF representatives to inform strategic decisions and actions for immediate programming and management decisions.
Advanced degree in public health, international development, or a related field, with at least 15 years of experience in managing public health programs.
Experience in coordinating USAID-funded or similar international donor-funded health programs is preferred.
Strong technical skills in health systems strengthening, program coordination, and managing complex health portfolios.
Proven ability to facilitate coordination among diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English; knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is beneficial.
Strategic thinking, leadership capabilities, and adaptability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.pu
