About CVT:
The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma rehabilitative services to survivors of gross human rights abuses, including torture, and works toward a future in which gross human rights violations cease to exist and victims have hope for a new life. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East. We work locally, nationally, and internationally through programs that provide trauma rehabilitative services, conduct technical assistance and capacity building to human rights activists, civil society organizations, and local service providers around the world who can prevent and treat gross human rights abuses, and advocate for human rights and an end to gross human rights violations.
This position is related to a program designed to address the mental health needs of torture and trauma survivors living in Tigray region with Internally displaced Peoples (IDPâs) Locations, in Shire, Axum, Sheraro and Mekelle, of Tigray Regional State, and conflict-affected populations in surrounding areas through direct services and capacity building of IDPâS, host communities and national staff.
General Description of Role:
The Human resource officer is based in Shire, will report to the Area Manager. S/he will provide human resource support for program and administrative activities in Tigray CVT Operational Areas.
The purpose of a human resource officer is to implement delegated area of human resource responsibility and deliver a variety of human resource and administration related activities, including management of staffâs time sheet leave tracking, and insurance follow-up activities. HR Officer will play a key role in ensuring smooth operation of the CVT Ethiopiaâs field operation in Tigray, ensuring uniform and correct application of human resources policies and procedures within CVT Ethiopia. HR Officer will also be responsible for an oversight of IT maintenance and tracking.
Main Responsibilities

1. Human Resources
Generate reports on a yearly basis, on Performance Appraise and follow up with all bases on Employees, Probationary Period, are submitted and reviewed, follow-up with Addis HR Manager for feedback for the purpose of facilitating Merit increment payments.
Keep a staff list and list of ends of probation and end-of-contract dates for employees and communicate with the concerned team/ managers supervisors and to update their contracts and letters as per their assessment feedback.
Provide administrative and clerical support to HR transactions and processes. Prepare, type, photocopy and scan employment-related documentation, such as employment contracts, termination letters, salary technical adjustments letters, materials for staff learning and development events, etc.
Supporting FHO in every aspect that requests my assistant in time of absence or stress of work and so on.
2. Administration
Generate Operative of Administrative and clerical support to HR transactions and processing a timely manner
Provide administrative and clerical support to HR transactions and processes. Prepare, type, photocopy and scan employment-related documentation, such as employment contracts, termination letters, salary technical adjustments letters, materials for staff learning and development events, etc.
Terms of Employment: the contract is effective from September 1 ,2024 through August 30, 2025 depending on funding availability.
Duty Station: Shire, Tigray, Ethiopia
Duration: Until May 2025 employment agreement
