DEC is a local CSO established in 2007 and re-registered in May 2019 as per the new Authority for CSO Proclamation by the Ethiopian government bearing a registration number of 0009. The organization has five major programs: Child Well-being and Education Development Program, Gender and Life Skill Development, Employable Skills Development Program, Advocacy, and Humanitarian Emergency Program. DEC actively works in six National Regional States and one city administration of Ethiopia namely Amhara, Afar, Oromia, Tigray, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, and Addis Ababa City Administration.
Job Summary
Responsible for maintaining financial records, monitoring the Organization’s financial health, and maintaining in-depth knowledge of finance and accounting policies and laws. Finance Officers typically report to Admin & Financial Directors /Coordinators. Assists the Admin & Financial Directors /Coordinators with the preparation and consolidation of the annual budget. Posts data to various ledgers, and registers, and reconciles journals and logs following established accounting techniques and procedures.
Specific Job Description
Prepare and reconcile general bank statements.
Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting system.
Prepare income statements and balance sheets.
Provides technical support to outside auditors.
Prepares payroll and reviews the tabulation, monitoring, and distribution of payroll costs to appropriate general ledger accounts.
Maintain financial files and records &oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable
Issue, code, and authorize purchase orders.
Reconciles the accounts payable; the accounts receivable and weekly deposits.
Manage distribution of utility bills and collections of accounts.
Handles settlement of advances made to partners and prepares reimbursement requests documents/ correspondence and expenditure reports.
Monitors grant-related expenditures and ledgers; prepares annual expenditure reports.
Qualification BA/MA
Additional Skill
Advanced PC skills, particularly knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel as well as other financial software packages.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and Knowledge of government grant and contracting procedures
Advanced skill in IPSAS and Knowledge of Peachtree
