SERVICES/SCOPE OF WORK: The Intern shall use all reasonable efforts to perform the following services in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth in this agreement: 

Purpose of Internship: The Digital Health Internship aims to provide the intern with hands-on experience in digital health initiatives within the Ethiopian health sector. The intern will gain practical knowledge in the development, standardization, and governance of digital tools used in public health programs. Additionally, the internship offers an opportunity to enhance skills in data management, analysis, reporting, and the integration of digital health solutions into broader health systems. The intern will be actively engaged in various digital health projects, contributing to the advancement of Ethiopia’s Health Information Systems.

OBJECTIVES:

Learning Objectives:

Gain practical experience in digital health initiatives within Ethiopia.

Understand the development, standardization, and governance of digital tools in public health programs.

Develop skills in data management, analysis, and reporting using tools such as DHIS2.

Learn about the development and use of digital health solutions, including Master electronic community health information system (eCHIS), Facility Registry (MFR), Terminology Management Services (TMS).

Professional Development Objectives:

Enhance employability by linking academic education with hands-on experience in the digital health domain.

Build competencies in digital health as part of public health programming.

Foster a culture of using high-quality data supported by digital health solutions.

Gain insight into the role of digital health governance and the coordination platforms that support the Ethiopian health system.

ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Digital Health Project Support: Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of digital health projects, including data collection, entry, and analysis for ongoing projects.

Data Management and Analysis: Engage in the practical application of data management techniques, including the use of DHIS2 for data analysis and visualization. Contribute to the development of HIS performance monitoring dashboards and data use tools.

Report and Presentation Preparation: Support the creation of reports and presentations based on project findings and participate in relevant workshops and training sessions.

Field Activities: Participate in field visits to sites to gain practical insights into the use of digital health tools and systems.

Training and Capacity Building: Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to build capacity in digital health practices.

Collaboration: Work closely with team members on various aspects of digital health endeavors, contributing to the overall success of the projects.

Digital Health Governance Participation: Understand and engage in Digital Health governance platforms, supporting the coordination and oversight of digital health initiatives in Ethiopia.

DELIVERABLES:

Weekly Reports: Document weekly progress, activities, and learnings.

Data Analysis/Learning Reports: Summarize the data collected and the insights gained from analysis, with reports prepared bi-weekly.

Final Presentation: Present key findings, experiences, and achievements at the end of the internship.

Deliverable Description:

  • Weekly Reports: Summarize weekly activities and learnings. Due: Every Friday
  • Data Analysis/Learning Reports: Detailed analysis of project data. Due: Bi-weekly
  • Final Presentation: Overview of internship achievements. Due: End of Internship

EVALUATION

The intern’s work will be evaluated based on the quality and timeliness of deliverables, active participation in team activities, and overall contribution to the projects. The primary supervisor for this internship will be [Supervisor's Name], who will provide regular feedback and guidance.

KILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Number of Internship position: 1 (One)
  • Place of Assignment: Addis Ababa, with possible field trip  
  • Academic Qualifications: A fresh degree graduate in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with minimum GPA of 3.50.
  • Years of relevant professional experience: ZERO
  • Position Open for: young female professional candidates only
  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of public health principles and digital health tools; proficiency in programming and/or data management software.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical abilities and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure, handle long work hours, and manage high workloads; self-motivated, responsible, punctual, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Language Skills: English fluency required; ability to speak and write Amharic is an added advantage.
  • Duration of engagement: 9 (nine) months
