Job Description
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI reorganized by the decree of the Council of Minister’s Regulation No. 376/2016 as biomedical research, clinical trial and research capacity building under the Federal Ministry of Health. AHRI, over its 50 years in service, is well known for its hub function for skill and technology transfer and partnership embracing research agendas with direct impact in the development and transformation of population in Ethiopia and beyond.
The Viral Disease Research Division is one of the departments in the institute and currently has different research projects on viral diseases and related areas funded by government and international partners.
Therefore, the VDR Division is looking for self-driven, motivated, innovative, and energetic researchers to join our team as Research Assistants.
Summary of tasks Research Assistant will join the Viral Diseases Research Team. Candidates will be trained to perform in vitro and in vivo experiments and contribute to the Virology laboratory research program. She/He will perform experiments utilizing molecular biology, microbiology/virology, and /or immunology techniques and assays. Participate in biological specimen collection in the field and perform experiments in the laboratory: viral culturing performs genotyping as needed, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, and transfections. She/He will assist the researcher project PI and other researchers in running assays such as Western Blots, qPCR, WB, and ELISA as well as carry out data analysis, and make scientific reports as a team member.
Job Requirement
Qualification and Experience:-
MSc in Virology, Immunology Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or related Medical Sciences and 1 year and above work experience
Desired Skills and Experiences:-
Experience in laboratory and research skills
Experience in cell culture, immunoassays, molecular biology, and genomics laboratory techniques such as isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, next-generation sequencing, or protein samples
Well-versed in the use of sequencing and other laboratory machines

Duty station: Addis Ababa
Salary: 11,305.00
House Allowance: 6,000.00
Mobile & Internet fee: 1,000.00
Terms of employment: one year contract period with full time employment basis with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
