Job Description

Setaweet Movement is seeking to hire a Program Manager to co-lead the organization into its next phase of growth. If you are a feminist leader with sound skills in project management, this may be your next challenge, and we would love to hear from you.

About Setaweet

Setaweet Movement is a contemporary feminist movement that aims to articulate Ethiopian feminism and to create a space for dialogue, research, and activism by Ethiopian women and men. Setaweet is working to address gender-based violence through its free hotline Alegnta 6388, the upcoming Alegnta mobile application that can be used to report incidents of violence, and through campaigns to raise awareness and bring about a shift in consciousness. Setaweet works to build a nationwide feminist movement by engaging grassroots associations, womens rights groups and activists, and by organizing dialogues, forums, and conferences that create sisterhood and solidarity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Setaweet Director in setting and driving the organizational vision and operational strategy
  • Create a growth model for Setaweet CSO for the next five years with a clear set of goals and objectives
  • Turn the Setaweet strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth, helping to implement organization-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning
  • Oversee operations, projects, initiatives, staff and productivity, building on the existing and inclusive culture, and ensuring that team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met
  • Oversee Setaweets HR needs, design and ensure effective recruiting, on-boarding, professional development, performance management, and retention
  • Adhere to CSOs, region, country, and local requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary
  • Provide financial oversight and management of funds including forecasting expenditure at regular intervals
  • Close follow-up and support of all Setaweet projects in the areas of advocacy, activism, content development and knowledge production on gender equality in Ethiopia
  • Develop and oversee an all-Inclusive Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning framework for Setaweet projects
  • Improve the system of performance reviews for Setaweet team members
  • Centralize the communication and streamline the tasks of Setaweet team members
  • Oversee all operations including procedures and manuals, and align them with the Setaweet growth model
  • Identify funding opportunities aligned with the Setaweet growth model and write and follow-up on grant applications
  • Prepare annual and quarterly plans, present progress/status reports on plans
  • Supervise junior Setaweet staff andinterns and provide guidance, report on their activities
  • Represent Setaweet at conferences; forums and diplomatic events as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as per the directions provided by the Director of the organization.

Desired Additional Competencies

  • An understanding of the complexities of gender equality work in Ethiopia
  • A feminist identity
  • Fluency in Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna or other Ethiopian languages
  • Familiarity with the pool of international and Ethiopian funding opportunities.
  • The position will be based in Addis Ababa, with some travel to regional project areas.

Job Requirements

Required Competencies and Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Management, Business Administration, Development Studies or any related field
  • 10+ years solid experience in coordinating programs of a mid-sized social enterprise, CSO or a company with progressive values
  • Understanding of CSO regulatory models
  • A solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
  • Abilityto diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Excellent leadership and inter and intra-personal skills
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Critical thinking
  • A self-starter with the capacity to create new initiatives that will elevate the cause of Setaweet
  • A commitment to the pursuit of gender equality in Ethiopia.
