Main Duties Include:

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) strives to address nutrition and health-related problems by conducting intervention-based research and contributing to the effective implementation of the Food and Nutrition Policy in Ethiopia. To this end, the Nutrition, Environmental Health and Non-Communicable Disease Research Directorate is planning to recruit a data analyst on a contract basis.

The work of the Data Analyst or researcher will be guided by a Senior researcher and may be undertaken in collaboration with technical advisors from sectors working on specific analysis projects. He/She will join EPHI to collect, aggregate, and merge data sets for analysis as well as create new data sets of summary statistics for presentation and report.

The work of the Data Analyst/researcher will involve: 

• Coordinate the research activities under senior research supervision

•  Prepare on technical report and manuscript writing 

• Travel to field for research data collection and supervision. 

• Contributes to grant proposal development and proposals for institutional review board.

• Coordinate field travels and required logistics.

•  Facilitate procurement of equipment or supplies necessary for the project.

•  Contribute to project reports to donors and EPHI management and publish relevant findings on a timely basis.

•   Prepare weekly plan and report the same to the project focals.

•  Monitor whether the project’s planned activities are going as scheduled or not. 

•  Participating in regular discussions with other project team members, project consultants and donors.

• Engage in other relevant assignments assigned by project coordinators for the successful deliver of project output.

•   Analyse data using statistical software such as STATA or R by applying the most appropriate and robust statistical methods and sampling weights; 

•  Conduct various statistical analysis that include:

.  Cleaning data and methodically assessing its quality before analysis; 

. Merging data sets or creating new data sets for analysis; 

.  Creating or deriving new variables from existing data sets; 

.  Assessing the distribution of variables so that the most appropriate statistical tests are applied;

.  Creating, annotating and maintaining syntax files of analysis that record all changes made to variables and the statistical procedures applied so that they can be checked and repeated; 

.  Methodically storing and cataloguing the syntax files, the output files and any history file of analysis to create a record of the analysis done; 

.  Creating tables of results and statistical output; 

.  Creating maps of the distribution of variables;

. Creating graphs and figures to present data; 

.  Applying best practices in data processing, management and analysis.

•  Engage in other activities as needed.

PhD ( MSc) in public health, biostatistics, Epidemiology 

•  eight years’ experience for MSc holders; six years’ for PhD holder of work organizing and analyzing large datasets, ideally health or nutritional in origin, using statistical software. 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

•  Experience in using statistical software is required; experience with STATA and/or R statistical software would be an advantage. 

•  An ability to write reports of the analysis done in English.

•  Knowledge and experience about food composition, food sample collection, analysis and reporting.

• A proven research experience with demonstrated 

•  Demonstrated ability to publish research findings, priority will be given to candidate with publications.

Duration 

•  6-12 months with possible extension
