Senior Analyst - Membership and Surveillance

Position Summary

The Senior Analyst - Membership and Surveillance will play a key role in managing and analyzing membership applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing ongoing support to trading members as well as providing a supporting role to the Surveillance function of the ESX. This role requires a deep understanding of capital markets, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.

1. Membership Management Support

1. Onboarding and Approval
   • Overseeing the application and approval process for firms seeking to become members of the ESX. This includes reviewing applications, ensuring they meet regulatory and financial standards, and facilitating necessary checks.
   • Implement a clear vetting process, ensuring firms meet predefined standards for capital adequacy, technological capabilities, and ethical conduct.
   • Assist and coordinate with legal teams to draft membership agreements (where applicable), clearly outlining obligations, rights, and rules.
2. Continuous Compliance Monitoring
   • Regularly assessing the performance and compliance of existing members. This involves monitoring capital adequacy, adherence to trading rules, complying with reporting requirements from regulators and other operational requirements.
   • Handling issues related to member conduct, including disciplinary actions for non-compliance or breaches of rules.
3. Engagement and Support
   • Serving as the primary point of contact for members, providing guidance on rules, procedures, and policies.
   • Organizing training, workshops, and other initiatives to support members' understanding of trading regulations and the ESX processes.
   • Addressing membership queries, handling grievances, and facilitating communication between members and the ESX.
   • Participate in industry working groups, committees, and forums to contribute expertise and insights on market supervision and regulatory issues.

2. Market Surveillance Support

1. Real-Time Monitoring:
   • Actively monitoring trading activities on the ESX to detect unusual patterns or behaviors, such as potential market manipulation, insider trading, or other suspicious activities.
   • Using surveillance systems to track trading volumes, price movements, and order flows to identify irregularities.
2. Investigations and Reporting
   • Conducting in-depth investigations into any detected irregular activities, compiling evidence, and preparing reports for further action.
   • Assisting compliance function in regulatory reporting to regulatory bodies to address any serious compliance issues or legal violations.
3. Policy Development and Updates
   • Assisting in the formulation of surveillance policies, rules, and procedures to ensure fair trading practices.
   • Updating surveillance protocols based on new regulations, technological changes, or emerging trading trends.
4. Collaboration with Technology Teams
   • Working closely with IT teams to maintain and enhance surveillance software tools and systems.
   • Assisting in implementing new tools or upgrading existing ones to improve the effectiveness of monitoring efforts.

Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or Law, or other related fields. 

• Minimum 5 years experience in the areas mentioned above or other related fields.

• Understanding of Trading Systems and Market Dynamics: Familiarity with trading mechanisms, order types, and market structures.

• Knowledge of Regulatory Frameworks: Strong understanding of capital market regulations and compliance requirements.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze large datasets to identify patterns or irregularities.
• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Skills to engage with members, regulators, and internal teams effectively.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
