Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quality, Health Safety & Environment (QHSE) Officer to join our team. The QHSE Officer will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality assurance, health and safety, and environmental management within our organization. The successful candidate will develop, implement, and maintain QHSE policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Report to: Quality, Health and Safety Manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality:

  • Develop and implement Quality standards, management systems, and policies & procedures specific to the edible oil plant.
  • Maintain the Quality Management System for continuous improvement, including developing supporting Standards and Procedures and managing related documentation.
  • Report to top management on the performance of the Quality management system and identify areas for improvement.
  • Promote compliance with customer Quality requirements, regulatory and industry standards, and internal company guidelines within the edible oil plant.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Quality management system for edible oil production.
  • Update, control, and maintain Quality-related documents and records related to the edible oil plant.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Maintain and ensure the effectiveness of the HSE Management System for continuous improvement within the edible oil plant.
  • Implement Corporate HSE policies and procedures locally at the edible oil plant, and develop local policies and procedures (including an HSE Manual) as applicable.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain QHSE-related items at all levels specific to the edible oil plant, including emergency evacuation procedures and corporate initiatives.
  • Report to top management on the performance of the HSE management system within the edible oil plant and recommend improvements.
  • Promote compliance with customer HSE requirements, regulatory standards, and internal company guidelines within the edible oil plant.
  • Manage HSE objectives, targets, aspects, and programs specific to the edible oil plant.
  • Identify, develop, and communicate key OH&S, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements relevant to the edible oil plant.
  • Update, control, and maintain QHSE documents and records specific to the operations of the edible oil plant.

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • Preferably, candidates come from and reside in Chacha, Kotu, or Debre Birhan city.
  • BSc in Environmental Health, Environmental science, or Sanitary science
  • A minimum of 2+-5 years of directly related Quality Management and Health, Safety & Environment Management experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018.
  • Experience related to managing all aspects related to QHSE across business areas (including office, manufacturing/production facility, and maintenance workshop and field operations) is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of HSE Auditing (COR etc.), Quality Management Systems Auditing, and Internal Auditor Designations (ISO 9001, 14001, and OHSAS 18001).
  • Proven ability to influence and motivate employees, management, and contractors to meet the company QHSE goals.

Competencies:

  • Product Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the production process and quality standards specific to edible oil manufacturing, enabling effective quality control and assurance.
  • Hazard Identification and Mitigation: Ability to recognize potential hazards associated with edible oil production, implement preventive measures, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Process Optimization: Aptitude for analyzing manufacturing processes in edible oil production, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Food Safety Compliance: Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards relevant to edible oil production, ensuring adherence to requirements to prevent contamination and maintain product integrity.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Commitment to minimizing environmental impact in edible oil manufacturing, implementing practices to reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainability.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Skill in collaborating with production, maintenance, and quality assurance teams to address quality, health, safety, and environmental concerns, fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ability to interpret and apply regulations specific to the edible oil industry, ensuring compliance with food safety, environmental, and occupational health regulations.
  • Emergency Response Preparedness: Readiness to respond to emergencies such as spills or contamination incidents in edible oil production, coordinating response efforts and minimizing potential impact on safety and the environment.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Dedication to ongoing learning and improvement in edible oil manufacturing processes, staying updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements to enhance QHSE performance.
  • Attention to Detail: Diligence in monitoring production processes and quality parameters specific to edible oil production, ensuring product consistency and compliance with specifications.
  • Ethical Conduct in Food Production: Adherence to ethical principles and integrity in all aspects of edible oil production, prioritizing consumer safety, product quality, and environmental responsibility
