Arabic and Somali Translator

Job Summary

The Arabic and Somali Translator is responsible for providing accurate and timely translation services to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and Arabic and Somali-speaking patients and their families. This role ensures effective information exchange and enhances the patient experience.

III. Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide real-time, on-site translation services during patient appointments, consultations, and other care-related interactions in the OPD and IPD.

• Accurately interpret and translate conversations, medical terminology, instructions, and documentation between English, Arabic, and Somali.

• Ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information at all times.

• Assist with the translation of written materials such as consent forms, discharge instructions, and educational resources.

• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify information and resolve any language-related misunderstandings.

• Maintain familiarity with medical terminology and procedures to provide appropriate translation.

• Act as a cultural broker to bridge gaps and facilitate mutual understanding between patients and providers.

• Participate in training programs to continuously improve translation skills and medical knowledge.

• Maintain accurate records and documentation of translation services provided.

• Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.

  Working Condition

• The working condition will be Regular or shift as per the department Schedule

• Immediate Supervisor:  OPD Head

• Department/ Unit:  Nursing Department

• Duty Station:  Addis Ababa

. Minimum Specification Requirement & Knowledge & Skill requirements

• Fluency in English, Arabic, and Somali languages, both verbal and written.

• Demonstrated experience as a professional translator/interpreter, preferably in a healthcare setting.

• Strong medical terminology knowledge and familiarity with healthcare procedures and processes.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Certification in medical/healthcare interpretation is preferred
