Common Vision for Development Association (CVDA) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-for-profit, humanitarian aid association. It was established on October 28, 2005 by a group of dedicated persons from diverse social, economic, professional and religious backgrounds. 

CVDA has been re-registered and licensed by the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice, Charities and Societies Agency, on November 30, 2009 as an Ethiopian Residents charity in accordance with the Charities and Societies proclamation No. 621/2009 with registration No. 0588. As per 1113/2019 proclamation also re-registered on July 30, 2019. 

It has permission to work at the national level so far operates marginal parts of BenshanguleGumuz Region, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, South West Ethiopia, Sidama region (17 woredas), Oromia Region (16 woredas in West Showa Zone, Borena Zone, Guji Zone, west Guji and west Arsi) Afar Region;  Zone 5; Delfefage, Dewe, Telalek, HadeleEle and SumuRobi  Zone 3 ; Gewane and Gelalo  and City Government of Addis Ababa. 

CVDA is member of National Health Forum of NGOs and National Children and Youth Forum of NGOs under CCRDA. Beside this it is member of Consortium of Reproductive Health Association (CORHA), Union of Ethiopian Women and Children Association (UEWCA), Ethiopian Extractive Industries Transparence Initiative/EEITI/, Ethiopia Civil Society Coalition for Scaling up Nutrition/ECSC-SUN/ and Afar Region Health Partner Forum.

CVDA’s mission is to enhance socioeconomic development in health, education, agriculture, environment, livelihood, and WaSH, humanitarian responses, community-based peace-building and good governance through holistic approaches and working with the community to contribute towards sustainable development and an improved standard of living in Ethiopia.

CVDA’s goal is to contribute to poverty alleviation through community-based approaches by implementing programs for development, good governance, and humanitarian responses in different regions of the country.

Description of the Vacancy 

Common Vision for Development Association (CVDA) has seven active projects and also want to work on financial sustainability to sustain the institution on the top of scaling out the program initiative and also to enable fully implement strategic plan. The business development and knowledge management manager expected to play pivotal role. 

Position: Business development and knowledge management Manager     

Report to:  Executive Director  

Duty station: Addis Ababa 

Career Level: Senior Level (5+ years’ experience)

Salary: As per the scale of the organization

Duration of employment: form date of employment up to for one year with high possibility of extension based on performance and availability of fund. 

Job Summary 

The Business Development and knowledge management Manager is part of the organization’s Business Development Unit (BDU) responsible for securing funding from donors including UN agency, USAID and other Multilateral Donors. The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for identifying all opportunities for CVDA across several technical and/or geographic portfolios; developing plans to compete for these funding opportunities; executing those plans, including oversight of pre-solicitation/pre-proposal activities, mainly engage in proposal preparation and submission. Equally focus on the financial sustainability of CVDA thus develop strategy and business  plan for CVDA engagement in business scheme. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Business Development 

  • Develop resource mobilization plans to operationalize the resource mobilization strategy of CVDA.

  • Ensure development of regular reports and analysis of the implementation plans, mapping between program priorities and donor opportunities, funding analysis, etc to be used by management for tracking progress against the targets, review and decision making.

  • Identify  grant  opportunities  and  develop  grant  proposals  in-line  with  agreed organizational procedures and in close coordination with Program Design Unit,

  • Identify and track relevant upcoming USAID, EU, UN agency and other donors funding opportunities – through advance intelligence gathering, partner relationships, and other available resources – and inform for the Executive Director and for the management 
  • Manage actions for pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning including: teaming, bid strategy, development of win-themes, oversight of and contribution to technical design, drafting management and other sections of the proposal in advance of the solicitation.

    Manage major open USAID solicitations and other proposal submissions, including teaming agreements, oversight of technical design and cost proposal, PPRs, capacity statements, internal review/quality control processes, drafting sections of the proposal where appropriate.
  • Conduct baseline assessment in all project intervention site of CVDA/ in all CVDA program area with objective of using the assessment for proposal development.

     Represent the organization’s business development interests at relevant meetings, events, and within resource mobilization or donor-specific peer networks.

Knowledge management Role

The knowledge manager is responsible for overseeing all knowledge-related activities, including the management, capturing, sharing and accessibility of knowledge assets. They are required to work alongside stakeholders, internal and external, to promote and optimize the usage of the organization’s knowledge assets. Knowledge managers are expected to keep themselves and their appointed teams accountable for compliance to the company’s expectations and strategy. They are also responsible for communication, promoting collaboration and workplace harmony.

Specific Duty 

  • Promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing that is enabled through guidance and learning. 
  • Document and share best /good practice, success story for stakeholders. 
  • Produce proceeding on events such review meeting, launching workshop etc
  • Promote the organization work for the public and for stakeholders using social media , billboard, signed board, magazine etc 
  • Update CVDA Profile Periodical (twice a year). 
  • Promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing through defining, supporting and encouraging the use of knowledge to employees of all skill levels and roles
  • Ensuring that knowledge technologies are up-to-date and working according to function, as well as ensuring that employees are not misusing company tech infrastructure
  • Controlling the accessibility and flow of knowledge within the organization and to external parties
  • Helping capture new knowledge with the usage of a knowledge base
  • Monitor progress by leveraging analytics to assess the impact, engagement, functionality and effectiveness of knowledge management strategy

Required Qualifications

  • Masters level degree in Health, project management, Education, international development , social science or related technical discipline 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in successful proposal development for USAID, EU, UN agency  and other donors, including pre-solicitation preparation &/or on knowledge management . 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and coordinate activities of multiple partners, including field-based staff.
  • Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research, negotiation, and verbal communications;
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Willingness and ability to travel , sometimes with little advance notice;
