Introduction
The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), established in 1996, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of women and girls in Ethiopia. Recent conflicts in the Afar and Amhara regions have significantly increased the vulnerability of women and girls to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
In response to this critical challenge, EWLA is committed to empowering survivors and strengthening the legal framework for justice. And one of the projects aimed in achieving this is the "Enhancing Access to Justice for GBV Survivors through Local Action in Afar and Amhara Regions of Ethiopia (EAGLE Project)" financed by the European Union, seeks to address the pervasive issue of SGBV by empowering survivors and enhancing their access to justice through targeted local interventions.
Thus, we are pleased to announce this call for proposals from grassroots civil society organizations (CSOs) working to address Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the Amhara and Afar regions of Ethiopia. This funding opportunity aims to support local initiatives that contribute to the prevention of SGBV, protection of survivors, and promotion of gender equality in these conflict-affected areas.
Objectives of the call for proposal
The main objectives of this call for proposals are:
To strengthen the capacity of grassroots CSOs to effectively respond to SGBV and strongly document and compile SGBV cases in the Amhara and Afar regions.
To promote gender equality, women's empowerment, and the rights of survivors of SGBV.
To foster collaboration and networking among grassroots CSOs working on SGBV in the target regions.
Funding Information:
The available funding for this call is 1,831,740 ETB
Grants will be awarded for a duration of six months with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that demonstrate cost-effectiveness, innovation, and sustainability.
Focus Areas:
Proposals should focus on one or more of the following areas related to SGBV:
Prevention: Activities aimed at raising awareness, changing attitudes, and promoting positive behavioral change to prevent SGBV.
Response and Support: Initiatives that provide comprehensive support services to survivors of SGBV, including medical, legal, psychosocial, and economic support. In addition to response and support it is crucial to document and compile the SGBV cases.
Capacity Building: Projects that enhance the skills and knowledge of local organizations and community members on SGBV prevention, survivor support, and advocacy.
Advocacy and Policy Reform: Efforts to advocate for improved policies, laws, and services related to SGBV at the local, regional, or national levels.
Application Process:
Interested organizations should submit their proposals in English, including the following information:
Executive summary: A brief overview of the proposed project focusing in responding, documenting and compiling SGBV cases.
Organizational profile: Background information about the applying CSO, including its mission, vision, and previous experience in SGBV programming.
Project description: Detailed explanation of the proposed project, including objectives, activities, expected outcomes, target beneficiaries, and implementation plan.
Budget: A comprehensive budget breakdown with detailed cost estimates.
Monitoring and Evaluation: A plan for monitoring project progress and evaluating outcomes.
Sustainability: A strategy for ensuring project sustainability beyond the grant period.
Partnership: If applicable, details of any existing partnerships or collaborations related to the proposed project.
Evaluation Process:
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Alignment with the objectives and focus areas of the call.
Clarity, feasibility, and innovation of the proposed project.
Potential impact and sustainability of the intervention.
Organizational capacity and experience in SGBV programming.
Gender responsiveness and inclusion of marginalized groups.
Eligibility Criteria:
Grassroots CSOs meeting the following criteria are eligible to apply:
Must be registered and operating in the Amhara or Afar regions of Ethiopia.
Should have a proven track record of working on SGBV, women's rights, or related issues for a minimum of two years.
Must demonstrate a clear understanding of the local context and possess strong networks within the community.
Should have a sound financial management system and be able to provide audited financial statements for the past two years.
Priority will be given to organizations led by women.
