Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children and Mothers. 

ROLE PURPOSE:

The position holder shall be in charge of technical quality implementation and delivery of the mobile health and Nutrition services in the assigned woreda. S/He will mainly be responsible for the daily implementation of the screening, OTP, consultation, outreach EPI, health education, sanitation, safe motherhood and child health as per the guideline of Oromia RHB mobile health and Nutrition teams. In addition, the position holder is also expected to provide supervision, technical assistance and capacity building to health extension workers and Health workers in health facilities. She/He will be responsible for the daily implementation of mobile health and Nutrition services package as per the standard, supporting health facilities assigned as integrated mobile health & Nutrition modality and daily dispensary and drug supply management

SCOPE OF ROLE: Mobile Health and Nutrition – Officer 

Reports to: Health Coordinator 

Dimensions: 

Save the Children works in - regions in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately - staff and current expenditure of approximately $90+ million each year.

Staff directly reporting to this post: MHN nurse & MHN Midwifery

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Coordinate mobile health and nutrition response package in assigned woreda with excellent liaise with primary health care unit directorate.
  • Responsible to establish and lead effective mobile health and nutrition team in assigned woreda.
  • Responsible for multi sectoral initial rapid assessment data collection and analysis when needed.
  • Responsible to represent and advocate key project deliverables and outcome brought by the organization in assigned woreda.
  • Responsible to prepare project detail implementation plan and procurement plan.

  • Prepare terms of reference (TOR), organize and facilitate training, review meeting and draw best lessons/practice.
  • Ensure key accountability issues addressed during the implementation of project deliverables.
  • Improving basic preventive health care at community level with emphasis health, immunization, and health and nutrition services.
  • Conduct & undertake PHC like consultation & provide proper treatment based on the protocol.
  • Strengthening of linkages and coordination mechanisms between community and the woreda health bureaus.
  • Plan and implement project outlined in the protocol for OTP and SC to achieve objectives of the project.
  • The health and nutrition Officer will help facilitate admission of the patient at the OTP, and SC.
  • Ensure each admitted child receives adequate and quality clinical and nutritional care through existing resources.
  • Ensure at all times adequately equipped and supplied with the necessary nutritional and clinical requirements – Plumpy’nut, Vitamin A, routine drugs, nutritional equipment’s, nutritional/medical stationeries, etc.
  • Assisting the planning and promotion of awareness creation on nutrition and preventative health care issues in the community.
  • Capacitate the competency of Health Extension workers in delivery of compressive primary health care service at health post.
  • Perform other extra duties as required

  • BSc/Diploma in Nursing or Public Health (Senior Clinical/Public Nurse or above).

  • To be considered for the post applicants should have at least 2-year experience in Nutrition programs with in-depth and up-to-date knowledge in the technical areas; 
  • Work in harsh circumstances and travel to field
  • experience to facilitate and organize trainings
  • computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications; knowledge of statistical software –Epi info and SPSS

  • proven ability to prepare biweekly and monthly reports and work independently and in teams
  • ability to meet deadlines and in delivering quality work
  • To be considered for the post; Fluency in Afar Affe is Mandatory.
