Job summary
The Maintenance Engineer-Brewing & Utility is responsible to lead the planned maintenance team, execution of all planned maintenance activities planned by the maintenance engineering staff in a safe way, maintaining quality requirements and conform standards towards to the target of increasing plant availability and minimizing stoppages. He/she is also responsible to ensure proper implementation of maintenance systems, ready to work on new improvement systems, participate in ordering and auditing of spare parts and propose improvement areas. He/She is responsible for maintenance of brewing and utility equipment.
Roles and Responsibilities
People Management and Development:
- Support the department staff in preparing training needs analysis and develop training plans accordingly; monitor that training delivers the expected results.
- Maintain a good and healthy work environment in functional and cross functional teams.
- Implement Performance Management System & involve in third parties performance evaluation.
- Coach the preventive maintenance team to develop: good discipline, leadership quality & functional skill.
- Provide direction to develop professional knowledge within the team.
- Undertake performance management and establish a regular one to one meeting with his/her direct reports.
Detail role & responsibility:
- Read processing machineries manuals and familiarize with company equipment's. And submit process flow chart/PID and working principles of all machineries and instrumentations in two weeks period after joining.
- Lead routine rounding for parameters and deviations, as per daily record log and communication with shift brewing/utility/quality operators team leaders.
- Execution of maintenance schedule of the brewing and utility machines, ensuring maximum lifetime of machinery by scheduled maintenance and minimum downtime due to unscheduled maintenance, in close collaboration with quality and brewing team.
- Being the only authorized Workshop area owner, shift maintenance engineer control workshop tools and equipment, report for brake and missing. And apply 5S/kaizen principle.
- Shift handover/takeover (HOTO) communication (on communication board and common channel); write job done, deviations and comments.
- Strictly use daily record log book, defect, downtime, Safety, maintenance job done and breakdown analysis reporting formats, (On the same day of observation/execution).
- Be model for your maintenance team; on food safety, general safety, punctuality and other company rules.
- While execution of any maintenance work, ensure compliance to product quality targets, food safety and hygiene. Create a work environment with safety as the highest priority.
- Any other tasks and deliverables as given by the Maintenance Manager.
Management of the team by organizing communication, setting priorities, assist in identification of required spare parts.
- Ensure always as if the plants are running as the set standards of the company & with optimum energy consumption (steam, air. Water, electricity etc..).
- Prepare preventive maintenance, document preparation and implementation of the plan.
- Responsible for brewing and utility plant maintenance
- Familiar with steam boiler, compressor and power generator maintenance
- Maintenance of waste water treatment and water treatment plant.
- Check, monitor spare part availability and MRP properly.
- Ensure clear establishment of roles and responsibilities of the technicians
- Evaluation of staff techniciansā and third partiesā performance whenever required.
- Lead preventive maintenance execution and audit as if conduct according to the planning & ensure proper start up and handover after the maintenance.
- Lead preventive maintenance and shift maintenance team
- Responsible to manage resources needed for Preventive maintenance activities (like: manuals, fast moving spares, tools ā¦)
- Assess, train and/or support in organizing training for technicians ā Mechanics, Electricians & automations jobs.
- Responsible in maximizing plant availability, minimizing minor stops and supporting operational staff.
- Monitor as the team conduct efficient inspection and periodically audit the Maintenance KPI

- Ensure plant is operated according to the suppliersā instructions and manuals and any deviation back to basic condition before the team exit from the brewery.
- Participate in teams for breakdowns and short-stops reduction
- Perform breakdown analysis (BDA), place the counter measure with follow up, device way of sustainably & standardize.
- Create a hygienic environment after maintenance execution and ensure 5S implementation on team tool box, workshops and working area.
- Prepare SOPs and OPLs whenever required to improve team knowledge and create the same platform across the teams.
- Report breakdowns and other stoppages handled by the team & suggest improvements for maintenance plans and spare part stock level.
- Ensure shop floor excellence and properly organize work place; create a hygienic
- Support the department in preparing & providing required informationās during budget, in terms of materials, human resources, third parties, overhauls
- Ensure waste reduction in the process and involve improvement teams, create awareness in the organization about the correct operation of the WWTP, Support & involve in Energy Saving Program
- Ensure implementation of different safety standards and systems through active participation and take disciplinary measures where necessary (safety tags, near miss reporting, unsafe act reporting),
- Ensure plant maintenance is carried out respecting safety rules and regulations enforce the use of PPEās in the work place. Make sure āSafe Work Permitā is implemented whenever necessary.
Position: Office of Maintenance Department
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Education: MSC/BSC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related fields
Work experience: Experience: 5 years MSC & 7 year for BSC of relevant work experience for a private organization in a maintenance role, preferably in FMCG sector (e.g. food processing, brewery & Utility) or manufacturing.
Additional Competencies:
- Technical skills: Good in Afaan oromo and English speaking/communication, strong electrical skills, strong technical problem-solving abilities, practical and technical thinker, good communications skills, basic knowledge on food safety, hygiene, HSSE&S. ability to read electrical and mechanical specifications and schematics and provide improvements.
- Social skills: Able to adapt and show responsibility under challenging circumstances, serious and hard-working, eager to learn, good feedback mentality, result oriented.
- Entrepreneurial skills: Proven ability and experience to learn about new developments in your field, flexible and autonomous working, leading by example and hands-on mentality.
- Superior experience in CMMS/SAP/ERM usage
