Farm Manager

Job Purpose

Tinaw Business S.C. is legally registered entity established in accordance with the Commercial Code of Ethiopia. Located in Guraghe Zone of the Central Ethiopian State Ezga Woreda. The Company is currently engaged in the production and exports of rose flower on 32 hectares of greenhouse coverage and exports to the international market. Currently the company employs about 800 employees and generates over 8 million Euro per year.

Building on 18 years of experience and remarkable performance in the horticulture sector, the company has embarked on farm expansion project on 54 hectares of land. The first phase of the project implementation on 15 hectares is almost complete and the second phase has started on 25 hectares. In connection with the farm expansion, Tinaw is looking for highly experienced flower farm manager.

 With the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the primary purpose of the job shall be managing the overall management of the farm.    

Duties and Responsibilities: 

For the realization of the aforementioned job purposes, the major duties and responsibilities of the person assigned as Farm Manager are mentioned as follows: 

-Oversee all stages of rose cultivation, including planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, pest control, and harvesting.

-Hire, train, and manage farm staff, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.

- Monitor the quality of roses, ensuring that they meet market standards and customer expectations.

-Manage the use of farm resources, including water, fertilizers, and pesticides, to maximize efficiency and sustainability.

-Ensure that all farming equipment is well-maintained and operational, scheduling repairs and replacements as necessary.

-Manage the farm’s budget, including labor costs, equipment purchases, and operational expenses.

-Maintain accurate records of all farming activities, including crop yields, pesticide use, labor hours, and financial expenditures.

-Ensure compliance with ESG including social health and safety regulations on the farm, providing training and enforcing safety protocols.

-Implement sustainable farming practices to minimize environmental impact and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

-Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to plan harvest schedules and meet market demands.

-Identify opportunities for improving farm operations, including the adoption of new technologies or methods.

Qualifications and Experience:

-A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science or a related fields.

- Minimum of ten years’ progressive experience in the floriculture sector with at least 5 years of working as farm manager at preferably in rose or flower farming.

Skills:

  - Strong leadership and management skills.

  - In-depth knowledge of rose cultivation practices.

  - Understanding of pest and disease management.

  - Budget management and financial planning.

  - Proficient in the use of farm management software.

  - Excellent problem-solving skills.

  - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to work in various weather conditions.

- Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons.

-Willingness to live within the farm premises.

Working Conditions:

- The role is based at the farm site
